San Juanico Thefts
Since around Christmas, there have been at least 5 trailers broken into and robbed, as well as several items gone missing from various locations
throughout town. I don't know if any homes have been broken into, but at least for now it seems to be mostly trailers. I would suggest that if you
have a trailer, or house in San Juanico that's been vacant for the last several months, it might be a good idea to have someone go by and make sure
everything is still Ok.
Nothing had been broken into for the last week or so, but unfortunately another trailer was hit Friday night.

were these empty trailers(not being used at the moment) or were people using them and they were away for awhile when they were broken into?

All the trailers were RV's on private fenced in lots that families have set up as vacation homes.

Same problem here in Bola, several breakins into homes and a few parts stolen from boats.
Off grid, 12-190 watt evergreen solar panels on solar trackers, 2-3648 stacked Outback inverters, 610ah LiFePo4 48v battery bank, FM 60 and MX60
Outback charge controllers, X-240 Outback transformer for 240v from inverters, 6500 watt Kubota diesel generator.

There's a home I know down here that had p/t owners. Just the right location and high wall for picking. Thief's broke in regularly.
Eventually ripping out wiring, fixtures, digging up plants, small trees. Owners have moved.
Like gnu wrote, better security -- motion sensor lights to start.

What good are lights and security cams if the police and the courts just look the other way? Waste of money.

I'm going to look into some. Anyone have some they like for Baja that are solar?
However, I feel like that will probably be the first thing stolen.

We have a pretty decent private security company in San Carlos that was started many years ago by a gringo. Very electronic-based means of monitoring
your property and alerting the company, who then notify the police and accompany them to the property. Often times, the police have all kinds of
excuses as to why they can't come immediately, especially if it is at night. Complete BS, of course. This is a pretty sleepy little resort town.
I don't subscribe to their service but persons I know who DO, say that the security company's main benefit (according to what their employees say) is
to keep an eye on the POLICE and make sure nothing else disappears while they are there. There have been a couple cases over here of the police
actually being caught red-handed, looting houses.
A human being you can trust on the property probably IS best. Other than that, I think I would opt for something that creates a lot of light and noise
to hopefully scare them off.
Bottom line: you really want someone representing your interests if the police show up to investigate. And you don't want to get involved in the
courts down here.

I installed a "Cabin Alarm" system here at my house in Bola and just this past September it saved my butt. The thieves got into my garage but when the
alarm went off it scared them off. They didn't get much. Its a good system that doesn't use any power until it is triggered, then there is a loud
siren that alerts the neighborhood. Only costs a couple of hundred bucks, and is perfect for an off grid building.

I think it's time to pull our heads out of the sand, the use of crystal meth and thievery are the new norm for baja sur and won't be going away
anytime soon, this issue is a plague for the good Mexican family's and foreigners alike. San juanico cops and some locals know or have good idea who
the bad guy are but need to catch them red handed ,being in possession of stolen goods not a crime in Mexico, and if you don't offer reward for return
of stolen items nothing happens with the cops. Now you add the inflation ,price of gasoline , ban on fisherys, low wages and the trump factor. It's
going to be along bumpy road, Buckel up and good luck.
