North Central coastal roads

Just recently returned from North central coastal area and found the roads to be real tough. What took 3 hours to get in from the Chapala area 2 years ago now takes 5 hrs. Same on the way out farther north where you exit into the Catavinia area. We covered about 120 mi. Our vehicles are a custom built VW Syncro and a respectably sprung older Toyota 4x4 truck. Lots of standing water and toppled cirio's blocking the road (seemingly full of water thus weakening roots) Average dirt road speed was 5/7 mph. Deep ruts and eroded topsoil exposing endless protruding rock hazards. Not reccomended for any except the best built 4x4 rigs .

I completely agree ... just back from a long adventure with friends and we originally had planned to head south, but local friends said the 7 Sisters was a muddy mess so we went along the Sea of Cortez first and then hoped it was dry a couple weeks later. It was dry but a mess ... all the trails / roads we explored were deteriorating and slow slow going.

In fact the road between Catavina and the beach was in the worst condition I've seen in a long time ... every depression was a river of water hence 6" to 18" square edges ...

Bad roads = Good people and we enjoyed some epic remote points.
