Feliz Dia del St. Patricio

God's true name is Andy Murphy. We know he's Irish from the advent of Murphy's Law, the most fundamental and unchangeable law in the universe. And his first name comes from the song sung in so many churches throughout the land... "Andy walks with me, Andy talks with me......" So Andy created the art of making whiskey solely so the Irish didn't rule the world. I just wonder if that's why Ste. Patricio MurfĂn invented Tequila Cuervo, same reason.

For those in the Mulege corridor, I hope La Jungla still puts on the feedbag for St. Paddy's Day. Even though it's an American-Irish frivolity rather than a good old fashioned Haggis, it's a great eat with great people. I miss it, and will toast a Jameson's in their honor. so please, share your SPD stories of where you are and how it's celebrated.

A good friend here in our NM town is Hispanic, family dating back both New Mexican and Mexican... she married an Irishman named McGary...... she always said she was "Irish by injection". Wonderful people, proud heritage, both sides.

So what's green and Irish and sits in the sunshine all day long?
...Paddy O' Furniture.

One day Katie and Patrick O'Toole were discussing Katie's health... she was feelin' out of sorts. He told her to call the local doctor. The sawbones told her to ''bring in a urine specimen''. She turned to her husband and asked, "Patrick. What in begorah is a 'urine specimen'?

"Aw, 'tis women's talk. Go across the hall and ask Mrs. O'Flanagan." So she did. She was gone about 20 minutes, and when she came back both her hair and her clothes were a bloody mess.

"Been tusslin' in the hall with her again, have ya?" Says he. "Aye!" she said.... "and ya shoulda heard what she said ta me !!!"

"So what happened?" says he. "Well, oy said, 'top o' the mornin' to ya. What in begorah is a urine specimen' says oy. And she says, "GO PEE IN A CUP". Well ! Says oy, "GO CHIT IN YER SINK !!!" ...... And that's when the foight began !!!"

..And THAT'S Irish. Enjoy the day, wear the Kelly green, and being half Greek and half Irish, if y'er NOT wearing the green, I don't know whether to pinch you on the arm or..... nevermind. And may you all get to heaven a half-hour before the Divil knows y'er dead !

We made plans to head over to Mulege for the traditional St Patrick's Day celebrations, but I came down with the start of a cold.

Happy Saint Patrick's Day!

My family emigrated from Waterford to Boston in the mid 1800s, then to San Francisco during the gold rush.

I am in 'gold country' right now, and have a corned beef in the crockpot. I will go ski for a few hours, then toast my ancestors with an O'Doule's and pretend it is the real thing!

Patrick O'Malley hoisted his beer and said: "Here's to spending the rest of me life between the legs of me wife!" - and he took home the top prize for the best toast of the night.

In bed later that night, he told his wife: "Mary, I won the prize for the best toast of the night." She said, "Aye, Paddy, what was your toast?"

So he told her: "Here's to spending the rest of me life sitting in church beside me wife."

"Oh," she said, "that is very nice, dear."

The next day, Mary ran into one of Paddy's drinking partners in the street. Mischievously, the man said: "Did you hear about your husband winning a prize in the pub the other night for a toast about you, Mary?"

She replied: "Aye - and I was a bit surprised. Till now, he's only been down there twice. Once he fell asleep, and the other time I had to pull him by the ears to make him come".
