Youth baseball bats....

Just something to be aware of...

As of January 1, 2018, the following organizations are adopting a new standard for youth baseball bats:

American Amateur Baseball Congress (AABC)
Babe Ruth Baseball
Cal Ripken Baseball
Dixie Youth Baseball
Little League Baseball
PONY Baseball

And the bats they are currently using will no longer be used. The new bats that meet the new standards are not yet for sale. This means that as of about September, 2017 there will be an incredible amount of youth baseball bats, previously viewed as safe for many years - that will now be given away, or thrown away.

From Little League:

"Please note that as of January 1, 2018, the new USA Baseball Bat Standard will be implemented. Little League-approved baseball bats that are approved for use for the 2017 season will no longer be acceptable for use in any Little League game or activity starting on January 1, 2018."

I remember my good buddy JR (SkiBaja/JRBaja - RIP) would bring baseball gear to donate on every trip down to San Bartolo and other regions. He would definitely be all over this if he were around.

I wish I had the time and means, I would love to revive this in his memory. Maybe someone can carry the torch?!

Thanks for the info BN! Great news for us here in Nashville!
We recently became a sponsor of the El Rosario baseball league and a San Quintin travel team. We've started with some uniform items. In July, we'll be down there to work on the El Rosario stadium.

Right now, we're in the process of rounding up equipment for them. So, now we know to work on our US suppliers to donate these worthless bats!

Batter up! :bounce:

Hey Doug,

I have two boys in Little League so we are finishing our season with the old bats. Two friends and I have been collecting bats, gloves, uniforms, catching gear, etc. at the end of the season and bringing them to Baja. So far we've donated in Loreto, Ojos Negros, Tecate, Valle Palmas. We even had BajaGeoff drop off some at his tournament in Erendira.

With that said, we expect quite a haul of bats soon.

Shari I sent a note to my local little league. I will let you know if they are willing to donate the bats to you. I assume they will use current bats through this season so I wold be able to bring them when I head SOB in October.

Santo Domingo, Lopez Mateos and Insurgentes are also starting little league training now. 8 and 9 year olds and 10 and 11.

So we are looking for equipment donations also.
Guest housing available to any transporters of donations.
