San Ignacio to San Francisquito

Is the fastest way to San francisquto from San Ignacio back through El Arco? I've got some tracks that head north just east of San Ignacio off hwy 1 but can't recall what they are.

Exit about 7 miles past Vizcaino: Km. 154.5, go about 12 miles, turn left through Guillermo Prieto (has been signed for Mision Santa Gertrudis)... great shortcut!

I tried to find that route north in December, but I wound up at a locked gate! There were a few workers there, apparently waiting for the ranch boss or transportation, but I wasn't able to communicate well enough with them to find out where the road I was looking for branched off.

It is one of those situations where the most traveled road, is not necessarily the main road. I wound up backtracking to Hwy 1 and taking the road marked '18' on the map. It was a nice drive!

If you are not living on the edge, you are taking up too much space!

"Could do better if he tried!" Report card comments from most of my grade school teachers. Sadly, still true!

I wonder where you went?
The route begins as a wide graded road, signed for Guillermo Prieto at Hwy. 1. Like the map shows, it runs straight as an arrow NE, then just before the left turn, it bends to run east.
The left turn into Guillermo Prieto has always had a sign for Mission Santa Gertrudis.

Guillermo Prieto is a ghost town with one of the homes now a goat ranch. The road north goes right through the middle of the abandoned village.

When you reach the state border, there is a fence and it used to have a sign mentioning the time zone change.

The next point is crossing the El Arco-Santa Gertrudis graded road. The mission is only 11 miles east. It was founded in 1752 and the stone church was completed in the 1780s.

Go on north from this crossroad and in 12.3 miles join the El Arco-Pta. San Francisquito graded road, all good and fast roads!

I found it and ended up going to the mission as well. Very cool area by the mission. San Francisquito did not disappoint. The road to bay of la was a little rough.

I'm in San Felipe now. This was my wife's first trip and she has been bitten by the Baja bug and is already planning our return trip. My plan worked and we will be back soon.

Nice work. I'm taking my wife on her first baja trip May 11th-15th. I am hoping for the same result.
