Nope, not old folks, old folks who are miserable and try to spread their misery.

There's a subtle, but definite distinction.

It's better to be happy my man.

Also keep your speed down and always use your blinkers when changing lanes or turning. Plus I never go through a light that has just turned red. This is a good safety precaution and prevents being stopped by a cop.

You write like you have experience in Baja. So, I'm surprised that you think obeying the law, under the speed limit, stopping at all signs, etc., ''prevents being stopped by a cop.''

Is that what you think? Play by the rules and you're OK?

I should have added the word "helps" before "prevents being stopped by a cop." My bad. I always follow my own rules, so if I'm stopped, I know I can affirm my innocence. I always speak in Spanish, even if the cop answers me in English. It's a signal to the cop that I am not naive. I always say I respect the Mexican laws and ask if I am being stopped because of my California plates. I hold firm and agree to go to the oficina de la delegaciĆ³n if necessary.

I've never paid a bribe. Never. The problem is too many others do, and it makes it harder for those of us who don't. For those who don't speak enough Spanish maybe it's time to take some Spanish classes.
