New pet requiremnets

saw this somewhere ...

New Mexican pet entry requirements. .. Barbara J Riddell

Cats and dogs - Changes to Mexico entrance requirements

If you are travelling to Mexico with your cat(s) or dog(s), please be advised, that as of January 2017, the Mexican government has changed its cat and dog entrance requirements, with regard to health documentation. Please take note of the following before you travel:

Only health certificates issued a maximum of 10 days before your arrival in Mexico are valid.
You must have a declaration/documentation that your cat(s) or dog(s) have been dewormed - internally and externally – within the past six (6) months, and that your cat(s) or dog(s) are ectoparasite-free.

If your animal does not meet the above requirements, you will be responsible for contacting, and paying a local veterinarian to treat your animal, and issue a new health certificate. WestJet will not provide compensation and cannot assist with meeting these requirements.

I think mexico would be wise to apply the same criteria to a few of the humanoids here in nomadlandia!

A friend of mine recently asked me if anyone here on the forum had any direct experience with this?

The requirements are in line with what I have been doing with my dogs since 2012. The health certificate issued by a US vet is good for 30 days, but if you are flying they are supposed to be within 10 days. (I flew from CA to AK with my dog last week, and they did not ask for the certificate)

I have never been asked for documents entering Mexico, but the health certificate plus her prescription for once a month parasite control should be just right if they do check.

Last December at Tecate, the US border agent did want to see proof of vaccinations, but was not interested in seeing the actual health certificate. It is better to have it and not need it than otherwise.

Thanks Karenintx!

Thanks for finding and posting this link, it beats the heck out of old or second hand reports!

I have no Idea if this will be enforced at land border crossings, but I will show this to my veterinarian before she prepares my next certificate this fall.

Crossing at San Luis (Arizona) three weeks ago, a veterinarian was on site and asked for de-worming inside and out (his words) as well as vaccination records. I told him I had never heard of this and he said they are enforcing it at all crossings. He let me go with a warning after inspecting (petting) the dog.
