Where is Paradise?

Paradise

Sometimes I watch a TV show called Seaside Paradise. I like it cause it shows people lookin’ to buy condos or houses near the beach and they go all over the place, Baja California, Florida, Puerto Rico, the Carolinas, everywhere.

Never had the chance to travel much so it’s all new to me. And I never thought much about what paradise is, to me, to them, to anybody. Well, those people got lots of dough but I think I’m way ahead of the curve and I got things my way without all that green.

I don’t have a view of the ocean or a big house, nothing like that but things just keep getting better and better for me here at my brother Robbie’s pad. Pretty easy schedule for me because he just lets me hang here or he’s here with me and his wife, Gloria, is off at school or working or studying. I don’t really pay rent, I just share my SNAP card with them and once in a while buy some food and beer with my welfare or rent assistance allowance.

Robby and me both got a scribe so we can buy weed legal so I mostly just stay high and watch the tube or listen to tunes, hang out. Robby’s the one with the car so he’s out scorin’ this and that all over town; his place is not like the joint. I mean I can go out anytime I want, walk around, take a bus, whatever --- I’m free as the breeze but it’s nice here on the couch, nobody to hassle me, no noise, beer and munchies any time.

I could do without Gloria when she comes home --- b-tchin’ about this, that and the other thing. She is a hater for sure. It’s all one way cause I don’t hate her. In fact I hope she does good at the school and becomes the best damn make-up woman in town. I think she’s jealous about me not havin’ to work, just hangin’ out here, doin’ what I want, when I want.

She’s got this thing about the dishes. I don’t get it; I do em when I have time, when I feel like it. If there’s some in the sink or on the counter or table when she comes home it’s like I trashed her place while she was gone. Makes no sense to me to wash one plate, one fork, a glass --- I just wait till there’s a sink full then I wash em’ all at once. No way to tell when she’ll be walkin’ through the door so I don’t guess that will ever end.

Might end all by itself because she and Robby fight a lot and I see the day comin’ when she’ll be gone and we’ll have the place all to ourselves. Now that, beachside shoppers, will be Paradise with fries.

Osprey, I love your stuff. I thought this might be autobiographical
when it started, as always a great read.
Thanks.

It suggests that ideals can simultaneously offer freedom and constraint. -Perhaps the biggest problem with the human condition.
It's very good, Osprey.

OK I"ll bite. You and Robby both have a scribe. What's a ''scribe?'' Do you mean ''script?'' As in prescription?

Doesn't sound like a bad life 'cept for Gloria.
