"Lifetime" metal roof rusting?

Here are two photos showing the rust on my patio roof, about a year old. anyone else have this issue?

Being that close to the salt water is tough on all metals except, perhaps, stainless steel. I know, I live at the beach and I'm constantly fighting
rust. All my patio/garden stuff is either wood or plastic.
But that looks pretty bad for only one year. Was it sold as galvanized steel? If so IMHO it's defective. You could clean and paint to slow the rusting
but you will need to repaint every couple of years.
I built a covered patio and used the plastic corrugated roofing, lexan I think. It was the most expensive kind. No problems after 5 years.

Wow, I was gonna go tha t route as well. Get a sprayer and use POR15. Stands for paint over rust. It stops the oxidation.

that is what many of us use for roofing and here at La Bufadora, the air is super salty...more than BOLA so we paint that tin roof stuff first and
repaint every couple years....I like the idea of POR!
It does last longer than the roll roofing which only last about a year here as it cracks with all the expansion and contraction due to the drastic
temperature changes.

Like I said, I opted for plastic - Lexan Corrugated Polycarbonate made by Suntuf. Bought it at Home Depot

Gotta read the fine print. "Lifetime" may not be your lifetime but rather the lifetime of the product which, in your case, is ending quickly.

in those pictures the metal sheets look like painted steel not rust-proof stuff...
the woods not painted yet so you need to
paint...
just paint everything dark brown and you'll never notice the rust
someone told me once..."paint hides a multitude of sins"

POR is an effective product. but, not cheap. the cost of doing metal roofing (both sides) would be staggering. i know of lots of metal roofing doing
rather well close to salt water. i would guess there is a full spectrum of qualities in metal roof coatings.

over ten years and our steel building in gonzaga bay has not a speck of rust, amazing the difference between coasts!
at this juncture I'd rather put up with some rust though......

a complete seal is required no voids whatsoever or it will rust any where air can get at it epoxy is a good coating that is used on underground steel
above ground you would need to overcoat the epoxy with something else that is UV tolerant. look up cathodic protection for aboveground steel
structures.

it looks like it may be poorly galvanized steel the galvanization appears sporadic.

That's patina! Usually, you pay extra for that aesthetic.
If I were you I would stain the wood, and let the metal go. Embrace the rustic look, it's baja after all.
Choose a wood stain color that goes well with the rust/galvanizing colors.

About the time I was born (1947) my grandfather bought an army surplus Quonset Hut, and set it up on property he bought near Grass Valley CA.
It is still in great shape, and will out live me! That area had over 100 inches of rain this season.
