Highway 3
Anyone driven Highway 3 from Ensenada to San Felipe lately and have a report on its condition? Been years since I've driven it. If in decent shape
could be a good way to come down 5 to 1 and avoid all the bad stretches

I drove over that highway several times a couple weeks ago - it was in good shape.

I was on half of it (Hwy. 5 to Valle de Trinidad), all good. See TRIP #4 (April 2017) report.

SS and DK, how is the old pavement just south of San Felipe holding up? It was pretty rough when I drove it in December, and then there are the
vados!

San Felipe to Puertecitos is old highway, narrow and sharp dips. The asphalt is rough around Punta Estrella (lots of traffic) with a few holes. There
have been repairs in places. Nothing as bad as Hwy. 1 near the L.A. Bay junction or the northern half of the Punta Abreojos highway.

There are the normal vados and rough spots south of San Felipe, then it's clear sailing south of Puertecitos (aka FAST).
North on Hwy 5, south of SF - I'm ready for the vados. FYI: the lower right number on the screen was my mileage for the week in Baja of the NORRA race
- the bottom left number was my moving time.

Gorgeous drive, especially when an hour out of Ensenada and away from traffic. Best part is when coming down the eastern grade and seeing the back
side of Picacho Del Diabolo. Always loved the route even if it put another hour or so on my travel, worth every mile.
I don't have a BUCKET LIST, but I do have a F***- IT LIST a mile long!

If you are on the road on a Friday, Saturday or Sunday a stop in (just a little east) of Ojos Negros at the Cava de Queso is a nice diversion, and
they have great food

Planning on Crossing boarder at tecate n traveling on rt3 to Ensenada then on to San Quintin I'm wondering if any board members think I should
continue on to Tijuana then cross there n take rt1 all the way.I appreciate any advise as I am a 1st time poster n have never been down the west coast
of the Baja.

Crossing at Tecate works. How about a 40 mile dirt road to save a bunch of pavement and bad traffic?

Tecate to Ensenada on Hwy. 3 is excellent!!! Wide with paved shoulders, pretty new road... and several miles are 4 lanes wide, too. Do not go to
Tijuana... longer, and more traffic...
The Corridor 2000 to Popotla (south of Rosarito) begins at the Tecate highway, east of Tijuana, and offers another way to avoid Tijuana traffic.
The highway from Ensenada east to the San Felipe area is also Highway 3, so the two get confused.
Use Hwy. 3 for Ensenada from Tecate.
Here's a close up of the Corridor 2000, the way south from the Otay border or the airport in Tijuana...
