Sea Shepherd Vaquita End of Campaign
Sea Shepherds' Operation Milagro has ended for the season. The campaign focused on removing illegal gill nets set for the endangered totoaba and
drown critically endangered vaquita. I am proud to have been part of this campaign as a deck crew pulling nets and drone operator documenting
wildlife and illegal activities. Here is their season-end video:

Not really. We pulled hundreds of illegal gillnets and brought greater attention to the issue and increased pressure on the Mexican Government to
increase enforement. I agree the Mexican Government needs to step it up, but the efforts and results accomplished by Sea Shepherd is hardly 'peeing
in the wind."

Every little bit helps and you went far and beyond a little thing Gringorio....hats off to ya and what an experience it must have been! I just heard
about the drone operation last night from some guests who live in SF and they are very proud of you all too....but they will be glad things cool down
a bit in town when SS withdraws
thank you for your service

That's not what I meant...It was a great effort and much appreciated, BUT the entire SOC needs to have a sustained and determined program supported by
the Mexicans....My apologies for my poor wording and thank you..

Had a conversation, in Spanish, a few months back with one of
the local SF displaced fisherman, he asked me why, in his word,
the world, wants to stop him from fishing. Left me grasping
for an explanation he could understand, I failed. Complex
issue for the fisherman. I will always side with SS and any
other conservation effort. Keep at it SS and P Watson

Yet the government still subsidizes the net fishermen.

We did get a lot of support from locals in SF, and of course the pushback from Sunshine and his followers. I agree that a cool down period is needed.

No worries . I agree, the whole SOC needs the Mexican Government to provide
enough personnel and equipment to enforce current regulations. I'm guessing most of us agree that will never happen...

Mil gracias for all you have done and are doing. You and SS have brought a voice to the world for the Vaquita and other endangered species, who
without you would have never been heard.
