No, but I remember that. The 2 SO units were mirror images,
back to back, it is said those wouldn't be built in that
configuration again. It is my understanding the backward install
did not effect the operation. I'm not a proponent of nuke power,
quite the opposite, just a decent paying job. The idea of
clean, cheap nuke power, I don't think ever lived up to it's
billing. I've been told during an outage, SCE could purchase
replacement power cheaper than they could produce at SONGS.
Not sure it has been demonstrated nuke power is needed.
I honestly do appreciate the sarcasim though, I use it often

The coal plant next to me is closing in 2 years as they can't produce a megawatt as cheap as NG can do it. There is talk of laying a NG pipe all the
way out here to keep it open. I'll believe it when I see it.
We have centuries of coal and NG available right here inside the borders of the USA.

For what it is worth, Alaska has massive coal reserves that are not even being mined!
The Usibelli coal mine at Healy Alaska provides coal for power plants here, but the bulk of their product is shipped to Asia.
If you are not living on the edge, you are taking up too much space!

Stuff that flows through a pipeline must be cheaper to transport.
Coal in Alaska doesn't do much good in the lower 48 when there are other options.
Besides, coal is too polluting.
