boat names
A friend just purchased a boat and we were discussing names for the boat..harder than I thought. This of course made me think...what were some names
that Nomads gave their first, last or current boats. Hopefully brings back good times.

Went through a boat re-naming about a year ago for a friend's new boat that followed the exact procedure described in the link. As I recall there was
much alcohol involved and so far it seems to have worked as no great tragedy has befallen the re-named vessel (other than the usual boat problems)
As for boat name suggestions, My wife an I have always been sailboat people, having cruised for 3 years in our 38' sailboat many years ago. So when
we finally succumbed to the need to have a power boat (don't have enough time left to move at sailboat speed) we named our Grady-White "DARK SIDE".

Did some fun online research before I named mine. Ended up going with "Amante", which means "Mistress" in Spanish.

When I was young and SINGLE, my speedboat was named the Hymen Hunter
So, fast forward 30 years; current sailboat is named Old Ball$ 
Long term consistency in boat naming context is important too

SCARY Boat Name
Back when we had our sailboat in a slip down in San Diego, we often saw a small cabin cruiser based at a marina off Shelter Island named
...........................
Dos Abogados.
Decorated on each side with two dolphins carrying briefcases.
We often remarked "THAT boat gets the Right-of-Way".
Which was likely the (or, at least, one) objective.

Another call his skiff "Roger That", he did it just to pee off people on the VHF

My lil' 14' inflatable didn't have a name when I bought it, so I didn't have to go through all the pagan rituals of re-naming... so I named it
"SPANKY" after the couple I bought it off of, whom I affectionately called 'Spanky and Boo Boo Bear", my favorite Baja couple who first 'adopted' me
as their own on my first wintering trip down. It also earned the nick-nomer because if caught on the water by a blow it was a 'spanking' to get back
to camp, very safe and sound but wet, cold, and sore from the bouncing on those wood plank seats. I owe prolly a thousand fish to that lil' boat and
its' wonderful years on the water, had whales 4x its' size under and next to me, and hundreds of fellow campers enjoying spanking the waters playing
and racing with dolphins, my favorite sport as well as ripping through bio-luminescent iridescent colors reveling in the ''ooohs and ahhhs'' of sheer
joy of life. I owe most of my ocean joy to SPANKY..... she waits patiently in my garage now.
I don't have a BUCKET LIST, but I do have a F***- IT LIST a mile long!

My catamaran had three Jesus fish.
One red on the stern of one hull then two blue on the other.
It was a always a good sign when people got it.
I got a sense of humor about the fishies when I bought a 1978 Corona with one on the rear.
I thought it was a New England Aquarium emblem...

My 1st. and only boat , a 14' skiff with a 25 hp Mercury
that I traded my motorcycle for when I was 16.
Sorry to say I never named it and didn't own it long
as I was a poor boy and couldn't afford to maintain it .
If'n I ever get a boat I'll name it " Ship of Fools "

The inflatable boat with wood floorboards and a 25 hp motor
that we took on our two month trip to Cabo and back in 95
was named " The D I C K Head "
My friend owned it and bought it just before our trip.
It didn't have a name but we needed to register it in San Diego
before bringing it into Baja . I filled out the paperwork
and it asked what the name was and off the top of my head
The D I c k Head was born.
We caught SO many fish ! We used the Baja Catch as a guide .
It was the BEST trip to Baja yet.
I drove my 1976 30' Midland motor home with a motorcycle,
beach cruiser bicycles and surf boards .
I will never drive something THAT BIG again in Baja ......
