Tijuana police robbing tourists again.

Tijuana police robbing tourists again.
They say they are searching for drugs then steal half your money.
At the corner of calle coahuila and av revolucion, a couple of nights ago.
Bandidos con placas.
They took 200 pesos and 55 dollars. When I protested they returned 35 dollars.

by the way I do not drink or smoke.

f ucking bandidos.

F...ing bandits they are!!! No doubt about it. But that part of town even though its downtown is one of the roughest parts in the city of Tijuana: not only prostitution but also drugs and really "bad hombres" hangouts, human trafficking, shootings every night with a regular amount of monthly killings... I always have stayed as far away as possible from this area, going down there is looking for trouble...

No Sunday school in the area.

He said Revolucion and Coahuila NOT Revolucion and Calle Primera: that's where the Tijuana Arch is located:

https://www.google.com/maps/@32.5365102,-117.0367402,18z?hl=...

and even this area around Plaza Santa Cecilia on Calle Argüello is a "hot spot" and dangerous one. If anyone likes it rough they must put up what comes along with it or be careful and stay away.

TJ's den of iniquity is referred to as "La Coahuila" by some, after the street name.

What time?

Were you on the tourist street, or one block off -- makes all the difference in the world...

Parts of TJ can be sketchy. My wife hates I when I miss a turn o get lost in TJ and I start driving us down the interesting streets

Nearly 9pm.
The cops rob people all over Mexico, not just on the tourist street.
So do Ensenada and Guadalajara and others. Even at 9am. I gave up on Ensenada because of the bandiidos con placas.

Is anyone surprised? They aren't doing it again because they never stopped. TJ, Tecate, Ensenada, CC, La Paz.

Solutions? Get names and #'s?

The OP wrote, " At the corner of calle coahuila and av revolucion."

That's over there by the outskirts of the Zona Norte, and really nothing is over there, unless you want to buy drugs from junkies who hang out there. It's a bad area with lots of deportees, bums, drug addicts, and other people down on their luck.

Next time stay in the Zona Norte, where it's an Adult Disneyland, that's very safe, and a lot of fun, provided you don't do anything stupid, and keep your wits about you. Once you get outside the Zona Norte, it's gets a more dangerous, but for some people, that's where all the fun is.

If you come upon any corrupt TJ cop, and if he does anything illegal, try to get his badge or car number and report him. Reporting a corrupt cop to a Baja forum does nothing.

TJ cops are a lot like US cops, and they profile those who they think may have illegal drugs on them, or they may be drunk, so they can make an easy arrest or easy shakedown.

TJ cops also look for weakness, and it's advised not to walk around with the gringo uniform around that part of town. The gringo uniform usually consists of shorts, Polo, or Hawaiian shirt, and flip flops.

That is zona norte, not the outskirts.

So joe, who are the guys screaming quantos quantos at the top of their lungs about 100 feet from the cops.

I was wearing long pants and a grey shirt.
They did not ask for ID, or look at it. Shakedown, theft, call it something. Do not try to hide it or justify it, just joe.

:light::light::light:

When I used to go near that area!!!

I would always carry an expired drivers license for just these situations. I also had a business card that was from the Sindictura office. Give him expired license and I show card to him.

Change subject all the time and ask cop if he's married, has kids and fears his wife if he gets fired. Say his name and repeat this over and over.

They did not want to see my drivers license.
He thought gringos all had a bunch of money in their popcket, free money for bandidos con placas.

never take more cash than you need to Tiajuana If you have $100 leave half in your room.

By the way; the girls in zona norte are now fat and old, no more skinny ones. nil guapa, si bandidos

The office of the tourism secretary has a Facebook page. The secretary of tourism, Oscar Escobedo Carignan also has a FB page:https://www.facebook.com/search/top/?q=oscar%20escobedo%20carignan

BTW, The Secretary of Tourism in Baja is not a Federal office. It is a state office and only for the state that they represent.

I have had a lot of communication with him regarding the Tecate motorcycle cop who used to make more money than the Secretary. I don't know where he is working now...perhaps Ciudad Constitución!

I don't know Tijuana, but my first thought would be to talk to folks at the Secretaría de Turismo. They're the ones that *should* most be concerned about abuse of tourists. They're also federal.

Next time hide your money in your shoes like a lot of scared American sex tourists, the cops will never think of looking there.

Don't take this the wrong way Joerover, but I have a feeling that your attitude alone towards Mexico, and especially the ladies, would attract corrupt TJ cops.

So the girls are all fat and old?

C'mon dude, do you even visit Tijuana?
