Lost passport

Sent my wife and my passport for renewal a year ago and it never came back, they never cashed the check. Now what?
I guess Baja will have to wait! :(

This is where registered mail or a tracking service is great to use. Renewing takes a month or less, so you probably just have to get new ones? Many of the post offices all do it where I live (San Diego County).

It's essentially lost. You should report it lost (particular form), then apply for a replacement.

USPS Flat rate envelope includes tracking - pretty cheap.

There were three post offices in Anchorage that used to process passports. In the last two months, two of them no longer do so, and the remaining P.O. (at the airport) is by appointment.

I don't know if this is a local thing, or a change in policy higher up. Anyone else aware of any changes?

For what it is worth, in June my grandson's new application took just under three weeks to process.

"Could do better if he tried!" Report card comments from most of my grade school teachers. Sadly, still true!

My family and I decided to get passport cards in addition to our regular passport. Our existing passports were far from expired but had to be mailed in in order to get the cards. All of our passports came back with holes punched in them making them invalid. I called and talked to the passport folks who where very polite and helpful and was informed I should have included a note that said do not destroy, I told them that I had read the instructions word for word and did not see that. She told me that's because it doesn't say it anywhere, I will do it next time and I would advise anyone else to do the same.

That is our government at work. Hard to get good help these days. That's what happens when you hire what's there from a PC perspective instead of the best.

I've gotten a passport in 2 days multiple times.

There are services to expedite. The faster you want it the more it costs. from a couple days to 2 weeks.

It depends... Do you miss your wife? or only your passport?

(...by the way, where do you get wife renewals?)

You can call/cpntact the US passport office and they can tell you if the passport is or was in process and the status. If it was lost by them in process they can stop and restart, if it was never received then they can tell you the process to begin again with either a copy of the old one or declaration and witness. The new process can be completed in one day if you have reservations of impending travel that you can demonstrate for example you can go make a reservation for 3 days from today and then cancel it and and bring it the passport office in person with the photos etc. The office opens early and you should get in line when it opens in order to expedite which costs much more. OR you can wait the typical 2-3 weeks.

That a valid passport be cancelled is ludicrous.
