No license plate
Who has taken a new vehicle into baja that didn't have license plates yet?
I can't find anything in search. David k. Didnt you take a Tacoma without plates?
Did you have any problems?

In my new 2014 Tacoma I was pulled over by Federal police. they reviewed my paperwork, no problems. In La Paz, I was pulled over and hustled for
money.
4 officers told me it was an infraction to drive without plates.
Military check also delayed me and others while they reviewed paperwork.
My experience, I would not go without plates again. Simply caused me unwanted attention.

Yes, all three of my Tacomas, I think. It was a non-issue for me, but I did not go to Baja Sur. You have the temp. paper work that is taped to the
windshield and people get new cars all the time and go to Mexico.
Here is a photo from 2005, on the beach near El Rosario the day after I got my truck... which I drove to Baja the SAME day I got it.
JUST HAVE your Mexican Auto Insurance updated BEFORE you cross the border!

Arizona only issues a rear license plate, SENTRI / CBP don't like it, they are required to do a visual on the plate.

I've read about cops in La Paz making stops for no front plate maybe it's BCS. Cops anywhere would use the no front plate as a reason to make a
stop anyway. If you're in BCN, probably not a concern. BCS with checkpoints and cops, expect to be stopped. Maybe. Be prepared to
negotiate.
(Personally I'd have plates unless it was not possible.)

I had a family member bring my new plates before I returned north. No issue with plates on my way home

La Paz police - I removed my seat belt to reach my temporary registration that was taped inside passenger side windshield. they took it and my drivers
license. Officer #2 came to the window and returned this temporary registration, I placed it back on the windshield. He then said infraction #2, not
wearing seat belt. Kind of funny now, not so funny when they were holding me for illegal payment.
They asked for $100 US fine. I asked to be taken to station. After a while, I offered $400 pesos ($32 US at the time). They said no. All 4 took their
turn at me. After 35 minutes they took the $32 US dollars.
They would not return my drivers license, until we did a double hand cash for drivers license.
Keep your OLD license to hand them, and a duplicate of your registration. They were looking for other reasons to extort, were disappointed I had not
been drinking.

It's apparently only an infraction or a problem if you are a GRINGO driving a car without plates. Maybe 10% of the locals I see driving in our town,
don't have plates. Maybe more. The stealing of license plates in Mexico is completely out of control. The bad guys steal plates to use on their cars
in the commission of crimes. Then, the victims of the theft never bother replacing them, because of the cost and the hassle.

if you are worried just go to the local DMV in your state and pay a small fee and pick up some plates
when the plates arrive just throw them away
I've done this before...you do have to get by the window person and go to a supervisor

Bob and Susan, I am not worried. Just wanted to hear others experience. DMV could not transfer vehicle yet cause it is not in the system and Need to
keep my old plates.
Sd: I have always carried duplicates of all docs so I'm ready for that. I'm not going to bcs.

Far's States issuing only one plate (here in NM is just one also) you can go online (google 'custom license plates') and have something fun made up
for your front plate. I did one that said 'BAJABUDDHA' and got a kick out of every military stop clipboard guy look at it, write it down, scratch his
head and re-read it... worked like a charm. Not so much at the port of entry at the border; the fatso had to get off his duff and walk around the
back of my truck to see my real plate.
I don't have a BUCKET LIST, but I do have a F***- IT LIST a mile long!

That's a good-un right there! I was thinking my next one will say, "CHINGACHINGA".
BTW, with designer front plates the characters can be over the 'legal' limit.

used car...I think i'd wait for the plates
I was thinking new car
edit...if its a new car and its not in the "system" the dealer has a cert of manufacture (or something like that) and you give that to the dmv and
"they " just put it in "the system"
I've done that...every DMV has plates in the office
