Saturday, 7am until 11am:
I've been checking the live camera at the otay border crossing southbound and so far there is no delay entering Mexico.

Everybody I know crossed yesterday or they are staying home. I've been checking the traffic and we may head to TJ for dinner this evening. :saint:

According to the Radio Latina website at San Ysidro northbound there are 15 cars in the regular lanes and zero in the Ready lanes. Otay has 5 and 5.

The busiest border land crossing in the world, so they say.

Amazing!

Carmegeddon is in process. Southbound at San Ysidro is closed. I wonder what southbound at Otay is like.

4pm. No wait in the ready lane northbound at otay.
About 25-30 cars in 1 line in the regular lane northbound at otay.

Looks like most are avoiding crossing the border with the southbound San Ysidro closure. I usually go to Mexico early on Monday morning crossing at San Ysidro. This is a working day for a lot of people. I will be going on Tuesday morning to avoid any backup at Otay on Monday before the noon reopening.

The closure was certainly widely publicized. It seems to have been effective.

On the morning news here in San Diego, it was just reported that the border into Tijuana opened 12 hours ahead of schedule and there was no "Carmageddon" at Otay.

Kudos to all involved who got the word out, and who avoided the border during the reconfiguration.

Interested in seeing some pics of what San Ysidro crossing looks like now - hopefully the reduced lanes over the coming months aren't too much of a pinch point, until completion.

This reminds me of the 1984 Olympics in Los Angeles. There were predictions of absolute grid lock and predictions of horror story traffic jams.

As it turned out the traffic was probably the lightest it had been in 50 years with the freeways being virtually empty.
