I'm in that thread and trying to get clarification. Part of it seems to indicate that SAT officials are saying that if your truck camper cannot qualify for the 10 year RV TIP, then you can go the route of temporarily importing it through an importer. That could be really expensive.

Still, I have seen nothing about this denial of crossing at anything but a Texas crossing.

Surely, there must be truck campers crossing nearly every day along the AZ and CA border. If anyone knows someone who has crossed, tell them to post it.

"This unit is NOT allowed into Mexico" was the answer!!! I asked to speak with the custom director, and he also told me the same. Both the registration, title, and the vehicle serial number and identification plates were reviewed. I told them I had to go to Mexcio for turismo....

The two suggestions were made:
1. If I could make arrangement with the border entry customs agent....ummmm?

2. Have the Texas motor vehicle dept change my veh classification to be a "MOTORHOME",,, IF it showed motorhome there would be no problem, and a 10 year permit would be issued.

Well, thats the story FROM THE HORSES MOUTH....and this is what the campers owners will face on arrival at the border.

I think the first suggestion means to tell the guy at the border your name is Ben Franklin and offer him a green piece of paper with your picture on it. You may want to try Ulysses S. Grant first. I don't think Andrew Jackson will cut it.
