Did I forget anything?
The 14 year-old F-250 with a bondoed even older vintage Callen cabover is packed TO THE GILLS!! Heading out tomorrow with my wife and two dogs for six
months on a Bahia Concepcion beach living in our 22 year-old travel trailer, which I store down there in addition to my 54 year-old, could be classic,
runabout.
I like to keep stuff running but maybe it's time for some new things.
Trailer trash, beer swilling, beach bums with two dirty mutts - that's us.
One aspect that I really like is that there is no Internet or cell phone unless I drive to town, which I do once a week. Living unplugged with only a
Kindle for diversion is a pleasant change.
I think this is our eighth year spending the whole winter in BCS. It's a great life. The bay is beautiful, perfect for a small fast runabout like
mine, and the swimming in the crystal clear water will be good until it gets too cold in December.
Last New Year's Eve at Berthas on the beach (El Burro) was the best New Year's Eve I ever had. Fast Eddy and the Slow Learners were ROCKING, the place
was packed and everybody was laughing, smiling, and dancing.
Always interesting people coming and going with the occasional European / Australian showing up. By far the majority of long termers are friendly
frostbacks from the Great Frozen North flying maple leaf flags and driving spotless million dollar, one ton pickups with 800 HP diesel motors. Pickups
are important, eh?
Then there are usually a couple folks passing through on their way to Tierra del Fuego, sometimes on bicycles!! The European world travelers show up
in the largest truck/campers made. Earth-moving type rigs with six reverse gears that could climb Mt. Everest. They ship them to Baltimore for some
reason and then drive to Baja via Alaska.
So what did I forget? Last year my wife forgot to pack the can opener, so while on the road I had to open the dog food with a pocket knife. grrr.

Must-have's for me from the States; enough 1/2 decaf coffee, battle ribbon (Northern), and vermouth. Maybe a few ribeyes for change of pace. And of
course, LURES. Lots of 'em. 3-gal garafons for purificado (the 5'ers are just too brutal any more).
...oh yeah, and Heinz ketchup. Never could find any in Baja, only Del Monte. Picky ain't I?

If you like dill pickles, you need to take them with you. Even at Wall mart in La Paz the selection of pickles is meager, and expensive!
Your boat story inspires me! In the yard here in Grass Valley, is the aluminum skiff that I learned to water ski behind, and caught a sailfish at
Manzanillo on the mainland. That was in 1959!
I have been tinkering with it lately, and wondering about the wisdom of a nostalgia binge with this old boat in Baja. The last time it was there was
in 1986.
If you are not living on the edge, you are taking up too much space!

Spend some time at El Burro in the 70's and 80's camping with our small MH. Nicest beach in the area. But don't forget bug spray I remember those
pesky little flies showing up by the gazillions, getting in your drinks, food, ears , nose, behind your glasses, etc.
