Unusal catch at Lopez Mateos
Looks like and was told it was a Pompano.

i always thought pompano were silverish in color.

Golden jack, or barred jack.
Absolutely delicious, with firm white meat.
Usually catch them on small plastics on the bottom, where they feed.

The fish riddle is solved
As it turns out, Road Runners attachment is correct, it's a Golden Jack. My boat captain did call it a Palometa and it's a dead on look as mine.

Inquiring minds want to know...
We kept the Tuna and the "Red Snapper" (I pretty sure they call all Pargo in that area Red Snapper) and gave that fish to the boat captain for him and
his family. He was very exited about it so what the hell, why not.
Brought the Pargo back to Loreto, had a restaurant cook it 2 ways, butter and garlic and lightly breaded and it was absolutely delicious.
From the ocean to my plate in 24 hours!

Thanks for sharing a great catch. Lopez Mateos is the gateway to such a great fishery. Golden Jack, a beautiful fish. According to Fishes of the
Eastern Pacific, Mag Bay is about as far north as the occur in the Pacific, they can reach a max size of about 48" and similar species include
bluefin trevally, pacific crevalle-jack, black jack and gafftopsail pompano.

Maybe not the species that picture that bobrehfuss posted.
The mouth was most definitely rounder and smaller. It reminded me of some type of sucker fish mouth.
