While on-board a Sea Shepherd research vessel last month I flew over 50 flights, 20+ with the Mavic Pro. In this video I flew two flights one morning
in order to assess the extent of the fog, which was preventing us from conducting beaked whale surveys. We needed to see how far the fog extended over
our survey area. I used the go4 apps' info (altitude, distance and direction) to safely return to the ship. On both flights, the Mavic was dripping
with condensation upon landing, but still flew fine.

4 miles away. 500 meters high (but you can do a hack to get it to 2500 meters).

Let's see, to answer some of the questions:
fishbuck - The quadcopter uses an internal measuring unit and gyro stabilization along with GPS for very easy flying. The app displays vertical and
horizontal speed, altitude, distance from home and direction to home among other details and that allows one to fly out of line of sight through the
fog. At least in this case when there were no airports or tall buildings to worry about.
wilderone - that raccoon/bobcat video gets more hits than I ever imagined! I've just posted more recent mountain lion video.
David - With a modification to the antennae, I've flown 3.5 miles away, so 7 miles round trip. The battery life is the limiting factor, unless you
modify that too. Altitude is limited to 500m (roughly 1600 feet) by the manufacturer. There's a way to get around that too, but I see no need to.

Thanks, nice stuff. We fly the same machine, bringing it to baja this week to capture good times on our dirt bikes and boat.
Brings a whole new perspective to my time spent on third rock from the sun.

Yeah, good choice! I love the way the Mavic flies and its camera is good enough. I also flew my Phantom 4 Pro. I like its camera better, but it just
doesn't fly as well as the Mavic.

That day we didn't, but had success on many days prior. I'm waiting for the campaign video to be approved then I will link it here.
By the way, the sea turtle ate the road runner...
