Major Fire North San Diego County Dec. 7-8, 2017

Not seeing any posts yet, and knowing many Nomads are from Bonsall, Fallbrook, Vista, Oceanside: Fire started at I-15 & Hwy. 76 and moved quickly along 76 towards Oceanside. Destruction is huge, large areas evacuated, schools closed. Many horses killed in the San Luis Rey Downs area. 24 hour TV coverage. Just FYI if you have home or family there and you are in Baja.

They are calling it the Lilac Fire. It began near Rancho Monserate County Club. Most mobile homes in there are gone. Began about 11:30am Thursday and by 11pm the fire reached the Bonsall shopping plaza where the theatre and Daniels market and the Arco station is. Big homes above there burned.

The Ventura fire is devastating also. 120,000 acres burned so far. No containment until 12/24. I'm in Pismo, over an hr North and we have smoke up here.

Our son and his family had to evacuate at about 10pm last night as they were in the path of the Lilac fire and with the winds, it was moving FAST. As of the last text, the evacuation order had not been lifted, but it was looking better with a change in weather.

They hope to be able to return to their home tomorrow and that the fire does not reach them.

When I talked with my teenage grandson, he could not believe one thing. The police had gone up and down all the streets in their neighborhood calling for a mandatory evacuation and as they drove out, he said it looked like many were not going to leave. I told him I was just happy his family had the good sense to get out when told. He said the smoke was terrible and there were a few embers blowing around at the time.

No belonging is worth risking a life. So sad about the horses that didn't make it out. It all happened so fast and while there were so many people with horse trailers trying to help, some were lost. My grandson said there was a very long line of vehicles with horse trailers!

What a horrible fire year --- first up north, and now in the south.

Big fire in TJ for the past few days. We saw big flames last night for a while. Unfortunately it's destroyed a beautiful area behind BLVD 2000 where we run.

Is it too soon to talk about Man Made Climate Change:light:

We got Santa Ana winds again, early Sunday morning. Not good news for the Lilac Fire... having destroyed nearly 200 structures, mostly homes and killed many horses in the San Luis Rey Downs area of Bonsall.
