Rental at Cabo, insurance?

Picking up a hertz Rental Co in Cabo. So insurance wise - should i just go use Hertz to buy it, or should I buy from Baja Bound on line before I get to Mexico, or is there another good or better option?

thanks

Never heard a good thing about Hertz in Cabo. They are independent of North American mother ship. Unless you are doing it out of some type of family obligation, I would highly recommend you use Cactus or mexrentalcar.com or Dominic to rent. Then just buy the mandatory insurance from them. Have I personally had a problem with Hertz? No. But over on TA there are a bunch.

I don't know if you can buy insurance from Baja Bound for rental cars. I recently looked at a Baja Bound policy and it was not available for rental cars. Maybe they have other policies that are.

You almost always get mandatory liability from the rental company. It may not be included in your quote, that is one of the biggest complaints about companies like Hertz.

The included liability will not be much, usually just the minimum required by law. Some Cabo rental car companies provide more than the minimum. They all offer additional coverage that many think is a good idea.

BBB in Cabo offered for an extra $50 extra insurance that accepted whatever my credit card company would pay for any collision or theft.

Check TripAdvisor, there are lots of threads about this.

Get the insurance from the rental car company -it's part of your contract.
There are many, many choices. I personally have gotten the $7/week car in Cancun, with $27/day insurance - it all adds up to a reasonable sum for a week of transportation. Make reservation online:

I've only used Dominic and Cactus out of Cabo, and I didn't have a problem with either. Both gave quotes that included the mandatory insurance. Dominic's terms are strictly U.S. cash, but the quoted price is exactly what you end up paying. Cactus ended up "offering" supplemental insurance for $5 per day that I didn't think was necessary but was made sound that way. They take credit cards and were otherwise nice and professional.

Go with the companies that others advised. I went with thrifty last year and got ripped off! The insurance was twice the price of the car even though they said it was included, the included policy was only enough for main land Mexico not Cabo. We videoed the car and all of the damage, wasn't enough room on the rental policy to mark all of the dents and scratches. When we went to return it they tried to charge us $80 per hubcap that they claimed we damaged, until we showed the video! The company never returned emails or phone calls after we returned home. BEWARE.
