Villas Cortez, San Felipe
Tent-camped here 5 nights with my dog.
Located to the north of San Felipe at KM 171. Pool, wading pool, palapas, grills, tables and benches, kid games, bathrooms, showers, camping area,
R.V. Park. Normally one cannot park their vehicle at the palapas near the beach but I was the only tourist there in January so they allowed me to
park my vehicle and tent in the loading area. Probably best suited for tents as you can put your tent next to the palapa but not a vehicle. RV's
& campers have to park behind the pool/recreation area. There is a caretaker here 24 hours a day and the Mexican Marina does have a camp before
you enter the property on the entrance road so security is good. In January there were very few people on the beach as it was still quite cool at
night. There is electricity at the palapas and recreation area as well as a kitchen. There are stores within a 10-minute drive including Oxxo or 30
minute drive into the town of San Felipe.
Paid 50 pesos/night for camping.

Is that a mis-print? I have never found a developed campground like that for any where near that price!
It looks nice, and dogs are OK, so it will be on my list of places to check out next trip. Thanks for posting!

Thank you bajamary1952. I am glad you posted and confirmed what I discovered when I stopped there researching for my roadguide.
For those who wonder why so cheap? >>>
As stated, you cannot park next to the palapas or camp next to your car. There is just no way most people are going to unload then carry all their
gear and camping stuff 100 or more feet to a palapa and then not be near their car, which must be moved and parked behind a building (out-of-sight of
the camper). It looked great but when the insane rules were told to me, I had to dismiss this as something that won't work except maybe for daytime
use only. There are 'normal' camping places just south of this one.
Here is the part of the road log along that stretch of Hwy. 5:
Km. 171.5 Villas Cortez, 2.4 miles. Camping, pool, and palapas. No vehicle parking near the palapas.
Km. 173.5 Playa Grande, 1.9 miles. Palapa camping.
Km. 177.5 Pete’s Camp El Paraiso, 1 mile to the restaurant and 1.1 miles to the beach with palapa camping. http://petescamp.com/
Km. 178.5+ Pemex gas station, west side.
Km. 179 Playa del Oro, a private home development. The Road Runner Restaurant and Deli is at the entrance, excellent food.

Km. 181 Colonia Morelia road (signed 60 kms.). New paved surface ends soon on this road west to Valle Chico and Diablo Dry Lake. See separate road

Km. 181.5+ Pai Pai Campo, 0.9 mile. Beach and camping, no palapas or services.
Km. 182 Hotel Sky Blue on the west side of the highway.

Km. 184 Pemex gas station, west side.
Km. 184+ Campo El Pescador road.
Km. 185.5 Hotel Diamante on the west side of the highway (Single room 480 pesos). The highway soon makes a long, sweeping curve to the east.

This place is Great! They rent our Red Hats group their pool & use of big palapa for a fun swim day really reasonable @ $5 per person. Last time
we went there we had the place all to ourselves. They had no food only beer (one brand) But we were able to take our own Margaritas & food. Was a
NICE DAY!.

The San Felipe campgrounds in town are, if lucky, $20 dlls.
more likely $25 to $30, a real deal at $50p.
edit: It is a bit no. of
town, for yrs., I've stayed in town, bicycle around, down to the
Harbor. Search for the ripe avocados, freshest tortillas, practice
some Spanish, etc. But, if
I was by myself, this place would be a consideration

Yes, it is great looking (and cheap).
But, will anyone of you camp there if you can't unload your ice chest at the camping spot along with all your other gear ... and after dragging
everything a distance to the palapa, must then park your car where you can't see it?
How about when it's time to leave and the whole process is reversed?
I just don't understand the logic and am not a bit surprised that it is always empty or that they made an exception on the rules to get Mary to camp
there.
Here is the photo I took of the campsites from where you must unload all your gear.
Also, I use the tailgate of my truck for a table to set up my camp stove on... and the power outlet to inflate my air mattress. Can't do either of
those here. I sure hope they get it figured out before it close up for lack of business!

Agree... I would rather hike or take beach walks than lug camping gear and ice chest across the sand. None of the other campos in Baja I have been to
have anything like this. I would never camp where I can't see my truck, my lifeline, my precious!

I met several people who own lots on the property and it seems most people who come here are from Mexicali. One person told me that in the summer
time the place is full of people from Mexicali as many want to use the pool.
Also the caretaker was there alone so I think he allowed me to use the kitchen as we ate meals together.
