missing yacht headed north

CALLING ON MY BAJA FRIENDS!!! MY FRIENDS SANDI & PATRICK HAVE GONE OUT OF CONTACT SINCE DEC. 26TH 2017! THEY MADE LAST CONTACT FROM AT OR NEAR
CABO SAN LUCAS, SAILING NORTH TO SAN DIEGO. THEIR YACHT IS NAMED YACHT CRUZ! PLEASE SHARE, SO WE CAN HELP THEIR FAMILY, THE COAST GUARD FIND THEM! WE
NEED TO FIND THEM SAFE! Go YachtCruz!

Fished Santo Tomas over the weekend. There was another family yacht sunk. kids survived with life jackets. The sunk north of PST and the kids were
found in La Bocana. The rapid spanish could lend it self to bad specifics

The Cruel Sea.
If not cruel, most often unforgiving. Storm conditions are unpredictable.
Many of us have sailed into conditions that turned out to be worse than forecast/expected or that we thought would be within our (and the boat's)
capabilities only to have things go wrong.
Fortunately (in our case), we came through with nothing worse than a miserable experience, some busted gear and a hard lesson learned.
A very sad situation.
That could happen to anyone who goes to sea.

Life Jackets are always advisable and may have made a difference. Or, may not, depending on the storm conditions.
Are any details now apparent regarding the chronology of the disaster ? Did the yacht capsize or breakup ?
Having come close to going overboard a few times (both with someone else on board and a number of times solo), I heeded the advice often read and wore
a life jacket anytime on deck in addition to rigging and using jacklines even in calm weather.
Once, Previously I had been sailing alone about five miles offshore in a moderate breeze from Oceanside to San Diego when I slid on the wet foredeck
and almost went over. That event sold me on using jacklines.
We all make those mistakes.
This is an odd time to be making the run northward. Usually, those heading south leave in November and return
April/May. What was the thinking heading North during the (possible) storm cycle ?
