The old sharp turn never looked particularly difficult or dangerous to me, with cars moving at 20-30 mph during the best time of day.

New softer turn - without increasing the number of lanes and number of Mex booths - won't affect waiting times at 5pm and/or Fridays.

Just wait until they have a US checkpoint going in, and then the Mexican border checkpoint. I guess long backups on the Mexican side aren't good enough, now it will be on the southbound side as well. 2 hours to get into Mexico??? Don't be surprised.

I agree. I crossed south on Monday around 5:45 am. At the point where the concrete barriers start on the US side, traffic came to a complete stop for more than 5 minutes. This had happened to me previously. US officials were dismantling a "temporary" southbound checkpoint. When traffic started to move again, there was a mad rush of more than 50 cars to Mexican Customs. I've hit this checkpoint when it was operating and passed through it very slowly.

The new "soft" turn in hardly an improvement. I'm not even sure why it was done. The new permanent southbound checkpoint will make for much longer crossing times if it functions similarly to the temporary one.
