East Cape drive,,, what are the highlights?
...I'm looking at doing the east cape, van camping style,,, like the look of the road on the map, follows the coast pretty close,,,,,
The road's all right?... Goes right through to Los Barilles?
What are your favorite highlights you're willing to share?
Is it all cliffy?...or some good beaches to access?

The East Cape Road starts just outside of La Ribera.
There are a lot more fenced off roads now that there were a few years ago so many good beaches are hard to reach in a vehicle.
Search online for blogs and travel forums to see where camping is still possible.

If we swear you to Secrecy......... just go and the adventures will follow. South of Cabo Pulmo there is good beach camping. Take all provisions
esp beer!

Cabo Pulmo is indeed gorgeous!
Los Barilles is pretty populated, beautiful town, one might describe it as a tiny version of Cancun minus all the huge hotels.

One of the many Baja places frequently misspelled is BARRILES. A way to remember if it is a double L or double R is that in Spanish, 'Barilles' would
sound like "bah-ree-yehs" as the double L has a y sound as in yes.

good camping at Los Frailes river bed, and hiking; between Castillo de Arena and Vinorama....sweet, private arroyos that lead to private beach
camping, pretty pink granite cliffs and outrageous beaches south of Vinorama

At Los Frailles, hike the river bed, stay to the left and get up to the falls. Once, on this walk with a dog, and its master, ran out of water. The
falls dropped maybe 25 feet to where we stood; I was parched so had a good drink before we turned back (we had mistakenly gone straight up, so made
our trip much longer than we'd hoped for.) I felt bagged in the hot sun and lay low for the rest of the day. A couple of days later we did the trip
again, but straight to the falls. There, I wanted to see what it was like above the falls. Not at all to my surprise, some cows were standing right in
view, and in the water, as I made the top! What I was drinking maybe should have killed me, but didn't.
It was great camping in those days at Los Frailles, we met many we had first met there, later for several years at a winter dry camp, beside a coral
beach area, 200 km south of Puerto Vallarta, and since then, in many places all over the Southwestern U.S.
Many years later many of us in fact, more than 20, met again at a RV Resort in California, just as we had in Mexico the last time five or six years
before, and of course some were the old Baja Campers in the mix.

Dave's waterfall canyon got a fence across it this year...may be hikable anyway. Dry riverbeds are always great hikes......to see fig trees growing
out of the banks, water trickles...wonderful discoveries
|
