Still retiring to Baja
I think I've been retired for a month or so.
I was busy at 1st because I thought I would leave Washington on Mar 1.
I decided to stay until April 1 so the pressure is off to clean and pack
But I did most of it already.
I have so much free time now. I feel like a high school grad living with my family trying to decide what I want to do with the rest of my life.
Of course I know what but it has the same feel. The sky is the limit.
I can do whatever I want, whenever I want.
Right now , I am actually considering when the weather will be good enough for outdoor camping.
Baja can be cold.
I don't know if I tough enough for outdoor living.
I see that you can buy a heck of a nice Moho for about 5 grand. That is probably the right way to go.
I keep running a return to SoCal through my head but it litterally does not add up as a good thing anymore.
Rents are retardedly high. Are people really making enough to live there? I doubt it.
When I was still considering a xtransfer back to Ca I finally decided against it because there was no raise. So in essence, it's like a pay cut.
If I wasn't making 150,000/year in Ca I would feel poor and be in perpetual rat race. I know because that's what it was like the entire 30 years I
lived there.
I even have a little pilot job lined up at Orange County airport. And as much fun as a second carreer as a pilot might be, I would be paying for the
priviledge to do so.
So why bother.
I think I would rather sit in a beach chair and sleep in a tent at my camp
Live as cheaply as possible and let my 401k grow.
Seems better than re-engaging in the rat race.
Because remember even if you win the race you are still just a RAT!

Let your 401K grow?
Why not enjoy it while you can? Are you planning on taking your 401K with you?
Take trips, buy a Tesla. There are some nice inexpensive houses available right now in Baja. (North of Todos Santos).

where ya gonna find a "heck of a nice Moho" for 5 grand?
sounds like idle hands are causing you to have idle mind syndrome, and think loopy thoughts. you need something to do.
why dont you buy that 5k moho, park it on your lot in SQ, and then tinker around and build a yurt?
check out https://www.yurts.com/
and http://www.rainier.com/yurts/
when you are done with the yurt, buy a metal pre-fab building and construct your own garage.

this guy overthinks everything. asks a thousand questions and does nothing.
if you think you can squat in Baja while your 401k turns you in to a millionaire, you are wrong. if you do not have a million now, you never will.

Hurry up and just go to Baja! I'm only 3 years behind you and would love to have some place to come hangout, LOL. How much money do you really need,
buy a decent MH for a little more money and get to camping all over Baja. I will be retired at a young age and will travel Baja for a few years just
to see what we like. I'm doing the FWC pop up camper but with the same idea as you in mind...

Enjoy reading your beginning odessey, 5k for a serviceable RV?
Like what, a 23' cl c? 5k seems lite, except the one's
you cross your fingers to make the next Pemex. I suppose
if you limited travel or spent time parked.
No doubt, rents in Orange Co., probably worse than you think, are not worth what you
get, I would think San Diego the same, not to mention
traffic, freeway wise or streets. I would not pursue that
route

Did you have a secret clearance?
I dare you to send your resume to Northrop, the B-21 is going in post development at AF plant 42, soon to go to production.
Get 10 more years in on a AFTER tax 401K,
Homes for about $300K in beautiful Rosamond CA.
4 hrs. to the border
When employed @ Boeing, I had to report the dates of my trips to Baja to the DoD guys to keep cool with clearance (as compared to J. Kushner)

" Get 10 more years in "
And those are 10 good years you won't ever get back ........
I would guess that you are in your early 60s ? Just how many "good" years do you think ya got left ?
I retired at 60 and haven't looked back. It was the best decision I ever made !
But to each their own,,,,,

A palapa & travel trailer! THAT is a good combo for beach front living. A generator will keep you cool when you need it, propane will work your
heater and fridge. You can fit a lot of fishing rods in one...
