FAT CAT PANCAKE HOUSE, ROSARITO

FAT CAT PANCAKE HOUSE, ROSARITO

My favorite meal is breakfast.

From the prominate 7/11 gas station joining the highway and free road South end of Rosarito, on the free road, go South the short way to the small Oxxo/Pemex on the right. On the left, other side of the road you will see it, now open just one month.

Fat Cat. It is a pancake house. A place to get a perfectly prepared American breakfast with terrific staff and owner that knows her stuff. Her name is Laura Peralta and I expect her place will find great success. It's good. From the coffee through selection of pancakes (fresh berrys of choice, Dutch, Apple and more). French toast selection to include a fresh baked house cinnamon roll all dressed up for the catagory (called "The Cat"). Crepes, flawless Eggs Benedict and fresh bakery surprises. Today we shared a Benedict and a Cat.

Stop in just to take out a Cinnamon Roll for $4 or 70 pesos. Have a look inside and meet Laura.
Closed Mondays and Tuesdays.
Open other days 8-2.

P.S. Folks in Loreto have adoration for Sabor! Restaurant. Same deal.
Mari of Sabor! so many years ago was serving her incredible foods and bakery out of her home before establishing Sabor! with Chris. So it is and was with Laura. Out of her home 'till the clients can now dine in her restaurant. She is driven to provide fine American food to the community she serves.
Currently for breakfast.
Lunch and more is coming. Yah. I enjoy good food. Next time it'll be biscuits and gravy. I'll share it with the sweet dish my wife will order.

Ruben's Palm Grill Brunch

And Mardi's.

Ruben's does waffles on Sunday and Mardi's
is open Thursday to Saturday, I think.

Both restaurants are in Rosarito; Mardi's is in Centro and Ruben's is near Puerto Nuevo

Both have contact info on Facebook.

Hey LukeJobbins
Can't believe I missed waffles.
Yes. Waffles, with blueberries, Belgium and double chocolate. I'm down for the Belgium with bacon.

Do they use real maple syrup? Real berries (not frozen)?

Good question.
That would defiantly be a telltale sign that the place is top notch. Sadly most all places don't use real, well in the USA , anyway.

And what about real butter ?

When I was a teenager I worked at Sambo's ( anyone remember them ? ) Well I made the tiger butter .
Anyone remember the story about little Sambo ?

Sambo encounters four hungry tigers, and surrenders his colorful new clothes, shoes, and umbrella so they will not eat him. The tigers are vain and each thinks he is better dressed than the others.
They chase each other around a tree until they are reduced to a pool of ghee (clarified butter). Sambo then recovers his clothes and collects the ghee ( clarified butter ), which his mother uses to make pancakes

No imitation-maple corn syrup for me! Pancakes and waffles always taste better cooked at home! And cooking them is half the fun!

Not a fan of ghee, I prefer the USA-supermarket butter I am accustomed to.

Well that waffle was great. They gave me buttermilk syrup that was amazing. I doubt they have real maple syrup and by the prices I would guess previously frozen berries but I am not sure. Definitely top notch American style breakfast with English speaking staff. Not a locals place but it was really good.

Well . . . just received this from Laura:

I just read the last comments and I want to said that I buy all the ingredients in states, I cross every week and YES I buy real butter and my maple syrup is home made, I buy the concentrated maple from Canada.
The batter for the pancakes is not from a box or a pancake mix, the batter has 9 ingredients on it, I use real buttermilk

My take on the place is from a few months ago. Food was quite good. Service on the poor side of slow. Now, I understand the many places have issues hiring and keeping employees, but still........... May have to the place a second chance.

Another Fat Cat Pancake House just opened on Rt. 3 in Guadalupe Valley. It's
just past the Road Runner heading north.

I suppose it is the same people. :)

I think the new place has a cigar lounge too. Haven't been there yet though.
