Random Journal Entry - October 2017

This morning we left Bahia de Los Angeles at around 11 am. We waited a bit for the market to open so we could steal wifi. We lowered tire pressure to 18 psi. After about 7 miles south we lowered to 16. Our bikes were overloaded with so much chit the soft sandy areas attempted to throw the bikes to the ground. We made it to San Rafael and Pancho greeted us warmly. He explained that the road ahead was bad and offered cold beer as he encouraged us to camp for free. We pushed on. It got rough. There were stretches where dusty sand met jagged stones. I led most of the way and Bruce’s yellow headlight was the only faint indication in my violently shaking rear view mirror that he was still with me - he made it through that chit, he’s still upright, I would think to myself as I looked forward while tending to my mirrors. Then the road got worse. I came very close many times to crashing hard only to recover somehow with my legs flailing about. As I made it up and around a rocky hill after a sandy wash I looked in my mirrors for the headlight. I came to a stop and waited for the headlight. I stopped and waited while catching my breath. I turned my motorcycle around and headed back around to see what happened.

I’m sitting outside my tent sipping tequila and orange juice while Bruce is hopefully recovering in his tent, His ankle is swollen and he limps painfully. We still have to ride out of here. His spirits are high and we have ideas. I have decided that if we eliminate this big glass bottle of tequila... it will lighten our load. He is sleeping so I will step up and do my part.

And always remember, life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by those moments that take our breath away.
