That's gotta be the longest SF250 race on the books at 315+ miles. Glad to see they are running Matomi wash again.

Two Spectators Killed

Apparently a Terrible Herbst team lost control at or near mile 170 and killed two spectators

Very sad
Just to clarify
I guess Valley Trinidad is the nearest delegation. Not really near the incident.

More research
The incident did occur beside Hwy 3 near KM 154 when the race truck apparently lost control had hit spectators near the track.

I drove from Ojos Negros to San Felipe on Friday, hoping to get a room and do a little metal detecting on the beach. I dimly recalled something about a SCORE event when I saw some spectators setting up along the side of Hwy 3 and saw some race buggies pre running along side the road. San Felipe was a zoo. The parking lots of all the motels were jam packed. I even saw a couple of Tecate girls in the 7-11 where people were lined up ten deep buying beer. I did not even bother to try and find an available room, just filled up the cooler with ice and beer and headed south to camp at my usual spot. Sorry to hear about spectators getting hit, seems like it happens every event, don't know why people insist on standing so close to the race track. Crossed north at Mexicali west Monday at 11am. The wait was a miserable 2 hours 15 minutes.

I'm happy for Justin Morgan winning O/A in the bikes class. He is a really good guy from my meetings with him.

About the two that died watching the race. They where locals I knew in town. They where standing 2 ft away from Race trucks and Motos. In no way driver could of avoided accident. In respect to the two that died there where other factors. That they did put them self in harms way. As reported by other friend of mine with them. That told them over and over do not stand there. When watching race at least stay up on hill or behind truck far away. Drinking also causes problems for people watching race.

I was told at that exact location the main race track was only a few feet from the pavement edge.
Back in the Sal Fish era that track along Hwy3 was not used because of the danger. It made race track creation much more difficult without that section.
