Getting quads down from Gonzaga south. No paperwork
Is there a way to get through the military check point without paperwork in my name? Someone suggested a notarized bill of sale

Do they care? Are they checking registration on all vehicles now?

They always check for registration at the border. It's somewhat rare for them to check at military stops. They do at one spot in Sonora just North
of Hermosillo for sure. Think it has happened in Baja, but not common.

It would be a good ideal to have some kind of legal papers on the ATVs. A notarized bill of sale would be good. Make sure you have the make model and
especially the VIN number on it. Every time I've been checked at the border and at a military checkpoint they have matched the VIN on the bike to the
VIN on the paper work.

The military is looking for guns, ammo, and illegal drugs. Some of them write down your name (seeing a passport makes that easy for them) and vehicle
info. They have nothing to do with immigration or customs, so they do not check for tourist cards or vehicle ownership/ registration... at least
during all my years.

I have ridden my bike thru about 100 military checkpoints. Never been asked for registration. Unload them and ride thru?

I have two times both were several years ago. One on hwy 3 at the old San Matias gas station after coming out of Mikes. The other was at the check
point north of El Rosario. We were riding our dirt bikes and they had us show the registration and they matched the VIN numbers. I don't remember if
they were Military or Immigration just that I found it surprising that they asked.

Well, not convinced it will work. I can get a deal on these quads but I need them in San Juanico from Gonzaga.
I've been asked for registration before and sometimes not. Just wondering what a legitimate bill of sale would do if there is no official paperwork.

I used to have an ATC 110 and my kids had a Suzuki m/c, no checkpoint questions. It is not the stated purpose of the army to ask for ownership papers.
That they have is odd, but they have the guns, so why not?

Quads
If it will make you feel better to have something with you, go to CA DMV site. There they have "Bill of Sale" forms you can fill out online and then
print them out. Put your name on it, put the VIN # on it with a recent sale date. Its as official as you can get without having to pay a cent. Plus it
has the DMV official form so it looks great! With all the correct info on it to.
It's not a registration form but its way better than nothing and it looks like its the real deal, because it is. But really all it is is a "Bill of
Sale" form. If they ask for something and you show them that, you are on your way!
I know, we got turned around at border for no reg on a quad. Got on a computer, filled out the info, printed it, tried again an hour later, VIN # and
names all checked out and on our way.

this what I would do...
leave the quad ..
.drive north with the paperwork and register it correctly
you don't need the quad on=site to register it
a couple hours of drive time may save you in the end
then you are all legal for later when you have a problem

I agree. Suppose someone stole them once you got them down there. And you have nothing to prove they"re yours.
