Walking across the border at San Ysidro

I haven't walked across since before they built the west side pedestrian walkway.

I'll be parking in TJ and walk north, weekday, mid-morning
then returning to TJ in the afternoon.

Where is the most convenient parking on the TJ side?

Is the old northbound east side walkway still open? If so, which is the better side to take when going north, east or west?

If the east side, are the Central American refugees camped out at the crossing still a problem?

When returning to TJ is it still just the east side crossing or are both sides accepting southbound pedestrians now?

Thanks

I just walked across the east side going north. It’s open for sure. I haven’t walked south. They just finished a big garage on the west side of the border line called easy park. I don’t know the price but it’s brand new and looks very secure.

New easy park is on the Mexican side of the border?

Yes, Blanca.

Cost was $5.00 USD per day last time I was there.

The new bridge is a piece of cake.

Both crossings are open in both directions.

For Northbound, I would "think" that Ped West is better during your planned hours if you don't have Sentri/Nexus.
Otherwise, old Ped East is preferred, being closer to all things that pedestrian usually needs.

For Southbound, again I would choose Ped West if your documents don't provide for express processing, i.e. you are not RP and/or your FMM needs updating. There are usually more walk-in tourists on Ped East.
Otherwise, I would choose Ped East, unless you're parked closer to Ped West on the TJ side.

I haven't ever seen a line at the new ped crossing (chaparral). I have been parking at the border station. It's situated in between both crossings at san ysidro on the u.s. side.

just off the freeway, have raised rates up to $25 on
weekends? Any truth?

Yes it's true.

I used to always park at the duty free lot ( $7.00 weekdays $10 weekends ) for 24 hours.
( those were the days )
But now that they closed the lot and rearranged things it's gotten crazy prices.

I now buy Mex. Ins. by the year so I now drive in and it"s free parking at the hotel I stay at.
Helps if you have Sentri, otherwise not sure IF I would drive in for a short stay ?

Since I've given up all hope, I feel much better
