BAJA FESTIVALS
Time to make plans to visit baja festivals this winter, spring, fall.
A calander of events would be nice. Events for the family, events worth traveling too. Any ideas for grand events worth a trip.

November 14 - 18 - 2018
Baja 1,000, Ensenada.
February 28 - march 5 - 2019
Mardi gras, Ensenada and La Paz.
April 14 - 21
Semana Santa, every where, including Guatemala

Many of the mission villages and ranchos celebrate annually. The dates were posted here on Nomad some time ago... a search of fiestas may find them?
In the 1962 Lower California Guidebook is a chapter on fiestas in Baja. The dates may have changed...
June 21 - San Luis Gonzaga (the mission, not the bay).
July 25 - Santiago Apóstol
July 31 - San Ignacio Loyola
September - 4 Santa Rosalía (de Mulegé) in both towns.
Seprember 8 - La Virgen de Loreto
September 16 - Independence Day (all Mexico)
October 10 - San Francisco de Borja (San Borja)
November 15 - Santa Gertrudis
November 20 - Dia de la Revolución (all Mexico)
December 3 - San Javier
December 12 - Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe (all Mexico)

It would be neat to do an events calendar...go for it DK!
Then travelers would know either to attend the festivities or avoid the areas with traditional fiestas as it can be super busy & noisy for 4 or 5
days.
The Bahia Asuncion Traditional Fiestas are centered around the Ascension on Aug.15 that the village is named after instead of a Saint. So our 4 day
Fiestas are either side of that date...this year it is after that. Events included horse and car & moto races, rodeo, beach events, dances to live
bands every night, a midway and cabalgata...horse rally. It is lots of fun but very very busy and the town is full so no vacancies.

I think there is a Cheech and Chong Lowrider Festival in Tijuana next month. I'll try to find the details.

If I ask nice, can this be a alcohol free thread?
No beer and wine partys?
If it has wine vino or beer in the festival name, I would not think of it as child friendly.

The family who lives at Mission San Borja do not drink alcohol. That their front yard becomes a festival of drunken Baja Californians every October is
not very exciting to them. Fiestas in Mexico of all kinds are associated with alcohol rather you drink the stuff or not. Nobody makes anybody drink
beer or tequila so you will not be forced to join in.

the Traditional Festivals are very family oriented...tons of kids around and events for them too...despite the boracheras.

If it says vino in the name of the festival, it is not a family festival.
March - Craft Beer Festival
April - Festival de las Conchas y el Vino Nuevo
If it says carnival or baja 1,000 there will be a guy selling beer, but, it is not a beer festival.
I was looking for a list of places to have fun, beer is not fun.
Interjet tickets seem to be cheaper 2 or 3 months ahead of time. Buy now fly in September.
Plan ahead.
