Maps of Mike Younghusband & Don-Kay's 2010 walk to Cabo

Photo by Graham Mackintosh of Mike and Don-Kay, west of Valle de Trinidad.

Photo by wilderone, south of Punta Baja.

In trouble! On Nov. 19, seeking a way around a cliff at water's edge, Mike is in a box canyon and comes back out to the sea. Baja Gringo travels south from SanQuintín to try and find him. The local fishermen at Santa Catarina Landing are able to extract Mike and Don-Kay by showing the way. It was a scary moment and Mike vows to never attempt a sea coast short-cut again!

OK, that is October and November... Stay tuned!

Juan and Shari can't let Mike and Don-Kay get by without going to Asunción!

New Years 2011 at Blanca's!

A nice break in San Ignacio at Juanita's (Casa de Leree).

Unknowing to Mike, the town of Lopez Mateos and Nomad 'bajacalifornian' had made plans and V.I.P. status required him to be hijacked to the edge of town where the town was awaiting him and Don-Kay!

Leading the parade into Lopez Mateos!

Nomad 'rob' and wife Lynda hosted Mike and Don-Kay at their Playas Pacificas development and rob took Mike into La Paz for supplies... Super Nomad treatment!

Arrived in Cabo San Lucas!

Back in Loreto, together again!>>>

Thanks bajacalifornian for the photos!

================================================================
In April 2011, I go to El Cajon to present Mike with the maps I made of his journey:

Thanks to my son Christopher for snapping these photos at Mike's house.

Thanks David. Mike had an adventure for sure. Shirley and I attended his lecture in Mission Valley and it was vary interesting. I do hope he writes a book about it. His encounter with the wild dogs near Guerrero Negro and his take on the rancho at El Cuarenta were thought provoking. The dogs especially should give a solo hiker something to consider.

The book has been written... but there was drama with the publishing company. I offered to assist in self-publishing, but Mike may be just burned-out from the ordeal? I alerted him on Facebook about this thread. Perhaps he will have some news?

From Mike Younghusband's Slide Show in Mission Valley...

May 2011:

Thanks Mike for a really great evening... your first slide show was a success!

The fun began at the Mariscos roach coach on 30th and Grape...

John M & Barbara. These were terrific tacos folks! My son Chris and I each had a garlic shrimp and a marlin taco... both excellent!

Baja Geoff, Curt 63, Bob H

Chris and Chuck (Baja Warrior)

Then we drove to the hotel in Mission Valley for the show:

Mike autographs a photo

The room begins to fill

Baja Geoff of Baja Bound and Doug 'Baja Nomad'

The screen

Solo is the star of the trip and the show

Graham greets Neal and Marian Johns

Barbara and John M with Graham and Neal Johns

Mike is given a gift from Juan and Shari (Bahia Asuncion), delivered by John M and Barbara... the mescal Mike calls Two Buck Chuck.

Mike and Jeff (BajaCalifornian)

TW and Baja Gringo (Ron)

Kashey Dog (Dick), David K, Baja Gringo, TW

Lots more Nomads were there, sorry if we didn't get to talk, and I hope more photos will be posted!

It was a nice evening. I am very glad to have been there.

EDIT: Mike had some killer philosophy that the replies below mentioned and resonated deep with the way he put it... Fear IS the killer of dreams!

Nice, thanks for sharing bajalinda!
I can testify from personal experience how stellar your property is and how gracious your hospitality was!
If I could, I would have an ocean view home at http://playaspacificas.com

Thanks Mike for doing something that few people would try. Starting with Graham Mackintosh, then you and now with Edie Littlefield Sundby all have brought forth an adventure many would like to do but for various reasons can't. With Graham and Edie we have their book to recall their adventure and with you we actually followed you down Baja day to day with what David K posted. I do hope you get the book published with lots of pictures.
