Baja California license plates / vehicle tags
Hi Douglas, And Ken, too!
Ken, I like your license plate in this post. It surprised me because our minds must think alike. I'm not sure what JPN stands for on your plate, but I
intended my MADNJPN to stand for "Made in Japan."

As a young pup that moved to southern California in 1981, at age 22, I bought my first truck in Alhambra, a red 1982 Datsun (Nissan) crewcab 4x4
pickup truck. I was so proud. And excited to "baptize" it offroad somewhere. Including in the Angeles National Forest through some "waterway" off-road
trails. I also drove for several years every few months to Tijuana, Rosarito Beach, Ensenada and San Felipe. Of course, I needed an appropriate
vehicle tag. Taadaa! Our tags almost match.
A decade later, I upgraded to a white 1991 Chevrolet Suburban 4x4 that I had outfitted for Baja trips and equppied with the appropriate BC license
plates (British Columbia AND Baja California) on the front. SoCal on the back.
I took several south-of-the-border trips before moving to North Carolina and once again needed to change license plates. So it was appropriate to
reminisce and pick BAJA FUN.
The Chevy beast has long since been sold --- it served me (mostly) well even though it was a money pit. The plates & photos will always be fond
memories of my times in Mexico.
Just thought that I'd share. And hope that other Nomads will post their tags also.

V6G, my guess is the JPN stands for Jeepin’ as in “Baja Jeepin’” considering the plate is on a Jeep. We’ll have to wait for Ken’s reply to
be sure.

My neighbor in Big Bear is from La Paz. He has "PDL BAJA" and "KYK BAJA" on his cars. They mean paddle Baja and kayak Baja.

From 1980 to 1997... Got it when the number of digits went from 6 to 7 in California and the DMV was quite shocked this one wasn't already gobbled up.

BAJAJPN=Baja Jeepin' (ebonics)
BAJAJP and BAJA JP was available through the California DMV at the time, but it sounded contrived. Some people have asked if it meant, "BAJA JUMPIN'"
or "BAJA JAPAN" over the (some 15) years..

I'd forgotten until I saw it among the plates I've got on the back garage wall.
Back in the late 80s, I bought a Yellow '70 VW for my wife and, thinking of her favorite Baja beverage, ordered
ROMPOPE.

what do you think the "TN" denotes on some of the plates? one (1931)appears to have "ON" or maybe "QN"

TN = Territorio Norte, would be my guess. BC Norte became a state in the 1950s.
