A visit to Asuncion Island to see the baby sea lions!

Asuncion Island which is a 5 minute boat ride from our Inn is home to over 6,000 California Sea Lions, some seals, a few elephant seals and lots of sea birds. It is a fun way to spend a couple hours watching the sea lions play, surf, argue and fight as well as interact with us.

We usually snorkel with the juveniles but because the babies are only a month old and the males are VERYY protective of them, we just watched from the boat. The pups are just old enough to begin playing at the waters edge but arent swimming yet.

This guy was struggling to climb up the hill...and another one looked like the king of the castle up on top.

The rock formations around the Island are beautiful.

The cormorants were busy remodeling their nests.

My grandson Izaak has pretty good sea legs!

Upon our return Izaak practiced his flying belly flops.
