Catavina PEMEX
Rumor has it that Pemex is moving to Catavina. 
Does anyone know the possible completion date of this gasolinera?

Come on compadre, you know better than ask that question
Four weeks ago we were there and the gas pumps were there, in crates, in front of the new Pinos "Stop and Rob" store
Progress? You bet,
Completion? Quien Sabe???
And there are the usual barrel sales going on each side of the road within 100 feet of the Pemex site.
You have to wonder where those guys will go when the Pemex finally opens.

Gas will be for sale out of jerry cans right up to when the new Pemex is open... and again if it closes. Free enterprise fills a void and this
location, 76 miles from the El Rosario Pemex, will always find gas for sale.
There has been a Pemex here starting in early 1974... but through mismanagement or sources of labor, not always open. A Pemex pump was installed at
the hotel but that didn't last.
Look for future Pemex (or another brand) stations at the L.A. Bay junction (sign posted) and at Laguna Chapala... someday!

Was thru Catavina last week. No sign of pumps. Nice little convenience store, with snack bar, though. Los Pinos.
reality\'s never been of much use out here...

Pumps were in there cardboard packaging last month
They were right in the store parking lot
Maybe someone stole them????

I think it is good to have a PEMEX at Catavina. I hope they can make it work for the long haul.

Yes a PEMEX at Catavina would be good, especially for the few locals. I don't know if I would leave the San Quintin area southbound without filling up
first though.

Not when I know that an hour down the road I can fill my tank at an honest station, owned by a really nice fellow Nomad (Baja Cactus) get a clean
windshield, decent banos (at last)
Supporting fellow Nomads is just the decent thing to do.
Plus, a full tank at Cactus gets you easily to LABay, Guerrero Negro, or wherever your next destination might be.

Los Pinos is known for honesty and service. Having the store there at the same time to take a break, get something to eat or drink, is a plus.

Laguna Chapala is 30 mi from Cataviña, 30 mi from L.A. Bay jcn. and will be 30 mi via the new highway to Gonzaga Bay. Too close maybe? A logical
location but maybe will wait to see how traffic flow will be? The land for the station was marked off, south of the junction, across from the Chapala
tire shop.

That land (marked off) also belongs to Los Pinos.

Back in the mid 80's, I was stuck in Catavina for maybe 4 -6hrs, ntil the Pemex truck showed up to refuel. As always, I seem to fill up at all
locations whenever I am below 1/2 tank, just Baja tradition. I also carry a few gallons for emergency's. Fuel in Catavina is only another benefit for
all of us, the store is awesome, cuse some of us love to stay in Catavina, but would like the availability of some misc dinner food instead of the
hotel food. The hotel food isn't bad, I've always found it pretty good, just that after paying $80 for the room, it's nice to have the store as a food
option, especially if I want to spend my dough on a few c-cktails and a few games of pool instead. I've always found Catavina to be the perfect
stopover from the border

For a number of years now, I don't carry extra fuel for the highway. It always seems to be available unless there is a hurricane or demonstration.

Who needs gas in Catavina? Besides the locals?
Who leaves El Rosario, or LABay or Guerrero Negro without a full tank???
