Have to agree with JZ your post of injury not cool. Riding in slit 50 mph not smart or know better. Its like if I post a cool 4x4 truck and you post your trip to the ER . While your driving your rig reckless. With respect to another dirt biker I'm sure you learned your lessen. When I was a novice did same stupid thing in slit bed. Lucky no visit to the ER so I asked the old timer experts. What to do with slit THEY SAID GO AROUND IT DUMMY. HAAAA sorry for that hope to ride with you one day at a slow pace.:D

Hi JZ, would my front wheel drive 2006 highlander be able to get in and out of there? I have a buddy with a tundra and he said he never has to use 4wd on one of the ss roads.

Hola bajadentist (my dad was a dentist and introduced me to Baja), I invite you to read my 2017 trip report (TRIP #4): http://forums.bajanomad.com/viewthread.php?tid=86376

There is a 4WD section of the sisters and it is on the road between Los Morros and San José fish camp (Faro San José)... The other 2WD hazard would be silt (powdery dust beds) which are just north of Punta Canoas (not bad last year) and a big one north of Punta Cono, on the coast road... can be avoided using the inland choice.

That map only shows the most Northern part of the SS's. The best spots start around San Jose and South from there.

It can be done with 2WD. Take the road just North of Catavina into San Jose.

I only posted the north sisters map as the question was about 4WD needs... and as I put on this map, it is in the north part. All of my 2018 maps are in the Nomad Road Conditions forum if you want to see the south Sisters map.

10-4, while there is an excellent 2WD graded dirt highway from Santa Rosalillita all the way north to the Punta Cono road, you only need to go a few feet off of it to get trapped by soft sand! The trick is to lower the air pressure (all 4 tires) way down (~10 psi) and any 2WD can get out without a lot of difficulty. Bring a good tire inflator!

There are lots of silt beds in the Punta Vibora area. That is why they cancelled that section of the Baja 1000 in 2003. Also lots of silt beds east of Bahia Blanco in the early sections of the road to Hwy 1.
