La Bocana book/day of the dead festival THIS WEEKEND
I was contacted by a woman who has a bookstore in Guerrero Negro about holding a book festival here in La Bocana.
Since I love books and have always wanted to inspire the kids here to read more and more, I said I would help out!
My first suggestion was to bring in the rancheros wine and cheese to be sold as well. It was done once before and both sold out within half an
hour.
Since it is day of the dead, that is the theme.
I have invited my friends Maru Ortega, who authored ENTRE DOS MARES UN VOLCAN and her husband Cliff Nickerson, who wrote EYE OF THE WHALE
(historical fiction that takes place in Baja). CANCELED - she cannot come. Jane Beard will come and share her recently published book on the
mission in San Ignacio!
It would be so fun so meet those of you who live close enough to come spend a day with us.
More info as she shares with me but this is your heads up!!
My scholarship students will hold reading sessions for any interested kids...how is that for a cool project?
If any of you have any ideas, please share.

Blanca, I wish you much success! The Pyramid Resort's Book Signing and Wine Tasting events hosted by Keri were great fun. There also was a tequila
tasting party in the evening!

UPDATE
Maru and Cliff cannot come but Jane Beard known as Juanita from Casa Leree in San Ignacio will bring her newly published book and will do a talk in
English about her life and book on
SATURDAY - Nov. 3 - 11 am
This is a small town event and I would love for many of you who are not so familiar with La Bocana to come! It is lobster season and the restaurant
has live lobsters in a tank for your meal. At $250 pesos, it is a real deal.
Laura The plant lady will be there - the one we all helped with the raffle tickets? Her sales are all to raise cash for her deaf child's hearing
aid.
Bajabooks Guerrero Negro will be there with books in English and she can order any book you want! She is from Mexico City and has all the literature
connections. Let's support her in her efforts to get kids to read!
Blanca will be there with a Mexico table with all the interesting items we have from our travels. I had the high school students work on this
project all week.
There will be very typical local food for sale. The ladies are asking the BEST bakers and cooks to make their specialties!!
There will be a photograph exhibit.
There will be a calavera making class for the kids as well as a catrina contest. Grab a kid or two and bring them over for the day.
Music and folkloric dance through out the day.
Come one, come all!
