Sneaking in a trip to BOLA between Rosa & Sergio
I guess I could post to trip reports, or road conditions, or general...but fishing was the main purpose! Went out on the glorious Sea of Cortez last
Friday & Saturday with Joel Prieto Jr in Bahia de Los Angeles. Can't say enough good things about him or his boat...great guy and great captain.
Lots of Yellowtail 15-20 pounds (yes my arms still hurt), Gold Spotted Bass, Leopard Grouper, some nice Huachinango, Bonito (on sabikis making
bait...go figure) and just to top it off, an October Dorado. Ocean temps about 80'. Easy to make bait. A great trip and once again, cannot
emphasize how much I enjoyed fishing with Joel. Class act.
No issues heading south on Highway 1 (outside of the San Quintin Slog)...came back up Highway 5 from Chapala not knowing what awaited us but talked to
a guy coming out who said it was not fun but passable...say no more!!! The "new road" is a disaster...chunks of it gone...will be years (if ever) it
will be repaired. Most bypass roads to wash outs easy to find and doable...the worst one is near Huerfanito and you have to kind of trust your
instincts and eventually you'll find a way out. Wish I could be more clear...but you get it.

The highway bridges washed out (~3) that are north of Gonzaga and south of Puertecitos are fairly new (2007-2013). I guess the engineers forgot that
desert arroyos do sometimes fill with water and carry away lots of dirt and rocks!

Hi John...there was still a lot of equipment at the "base camp" on the part of the road they are working on near Chapala. On actual Highway 5 there
was almost nothing going on yet...a few heavy pieces doing some work but nothing even remotely organized. Can't even imagine how long it is going to
take...kind of wondering if they will continue on towards Chapala, or pull those resources and start rebuilding the road to the north. Or will the
money dry up and they simply throw up their hands and leave? I kind of like that last idea!!!
