Mood: Press On Regardless!!

I went through the San Ignacio checkpoint this morning southbound. Asked a couple of the usual questions and was waved on. One thing that was not there last trip and which I have not seen mentioned. Between the north and southbound lanes right in the middle of the inspection area is now a large trailer and a pickup with large signs saying "Policia Estatal."

I want to add that in my dozens of trips up and down Baja I have had some pretty thorough inspections but never anything taken or any conduct by the soldiers that I found objectionable. Not to say it doesn't happen but my experience has been ok.

Sometimes the state or federal police set up a check, either at a short-term location or at the usual military locations.

The federal police have been at the La Paz checkpoint and on the highway into Bahia de los Angeles, the past few years from my observations.

I recall the Mexican Marines had a check set up south of San Felipe once... just north of the road to Rancho Percebu.

The San Ignacio problem for me was just once, in July 2015, all other times it was fine as are ALL the other checkpoints for me. I passed through the San Ignacio checkpoint six times in 2017 and no more than the normal check or waved through.

We just went thru today both northbound to San Ignacio and then again southbound headed home about 3 hours later.

Buenos dias. Where are you coming from and where are you going?

Adelante and have a nice day.

Hopefully there will be no more shenanigans!

Went southbound today with no problems. No one seems to bother single women traveling alone (or with a dog as my case). I've never been asked for any papers anywhere in Mexico.
