Choral Pepper's (Erle Stanley Gardner expeditions) Photos
I have a new url for the Choral Pepper Collection: http://vivabaja.com/choralpepper/ (formerly choralpepper.com).
Choral Pepper was a historical and travel writer having published several books about the desert Southwest and Baja California. She may have best been
known as the editor of Desert Magazine.
On this web page, I have posted several of the photographs I was given after Ms. Pepper passed away. They are mostly of her time as a member of the
Erle Stanley Gardner Baja expeditions in the 1960s.
In time, I have more photos that could be added. I will let you know when that happens.

Nice DK. luv that giant cave painting would be awzome to see that from the sky ... My grandad met Erle in baja back then when there were fish in the sea

De nada, this website has been online for at least 15 years and linked on my site, www.vivabaja.com. Now, it has a new url, but I am happy you all have now seen it.
My short friendship with Choral Pepper was very rewarding and it ended sadly with her passing in 2002. Her two kids (Trent and Ming) had a couple of
boxes Choral asked them to give to me plus Choral's Baja Dreams painting. I want to keep her many years of Baja exploring, writing, and Desert
Magazine files available for at least one more generation!
I first met Choral Pepper after months of email exchanges when I was invited to her Coronado condo for a dinner party. I brought Graham Mackintosh
with me as he was just published with his Journey with a Baja Burro and Choral was also published by Sunbelt. Neal and Marian Johns were also guests
that evening as we all exchanged emails and posts on Amigos de Baja about the great history of Baja.
Choral liked to be called "Corke" (silent e) as it was a nickname her father gave her. I would return to Coronado more times as we wanted to keep the
Baja excitement going. Finding her lost mission Santa María Magdalena was one goal, achieved in 2009 (thanks to the sharp eyes of Sharksbaja using
Google Earth). The next quest initiated by Choral Pepper's writing is to find the rock pile that may be the 1541 grave of Melchior Diaz... we are
still searching for it!
Choral Pepper life mission was to just get people to go to the desert and explore... and she succeeded!
