Wife's Birthday weekend at BajaMar and Decantos Vinicola

This past weekend, I celebrated my wife's birthday by taking her on a weekend getaway south of the border - most expenses paid! We stayed night #1 with our friend Gabriela at her place in Playas de Tijuana before heading south to spend two nights at the impressive Baja Mar Golf Course Resort.

Photo 1: Saturday morning breakfast on the Tijuana malecón.
Photo 2: Saturday evening in Playas looking north at Imperial Beach.

Saturday at around dusk, we sped down Hwy 1 to Baja Mar and checked in - unable to see much of anything before sunrise.

Photo 1: We had breakfast on one of the two golf courses before going on our morning walk.

Later that afternoon, it was time to go wine tasting in the Guadalupe Valley. Our first stop was the hip restaurant Valle 13. This restaurant is always on our list of must visits.

Dusk approached quickly and with only 90 minutes until Decantos Vinícola closed, we made our 10 drive to the vineyard and looked immediately for our Baja Pole Line friend Alex Ford!

He was at the bar, telling jokes and laughing with a group of patrons and international visitors.

Alex treated us to a tour of the Decantos facility and we were amazed by the modern, efficient technology that goes into producing wine.

Good times at Decantos Vinícola. This is a recommended stop for any Baja traveler looking to buy a great wine product and spend an afternoon among interesting people.

The wine list and the ubiquitous drive home. We will return very soon for another bottle of NEBBIOLO - my personal favorite (with that dark chocolate aftertaste).

Our Bajamar villa is just a couple of lots north of the whale watch on the bluff top photo.
The breakfast buffet is excellent at the clubhouse with good Mimosa's to plant the seed for a nice siesta.
When you buy a round of golf, you get a Fast Pass for the TJ border.
Everyone in the community is hoping the Jatay road goes through the hills to the Ruta Vina road.
25 years ago when we built our house there were plenty of bluff top lots, now there are just two left.
Every sunset is different
