Places to visit/camp in Baja Sur December
I'm staying in La Paz for month of December and looking for places to visit (including tent camping) accessible by front-wheel drive in Baja Sur
including East Cape.

The beach at Punta Arena is very nice... I know the host of this site has camped there often. The road in climbs a bit of a sand hill (firm not drift
sand). Cabo Pulmo (south of La Ribera) is a popular destination. I can't think of any beaches that will be real private, however. The canyons near
Santiago and Miraflores have waterfalls, hiking trails, hot springs and maybe camping nearby is available? The San Antonio de la Sierra graded road
(just south of San Antonio) takes you way back into the high country. Both palms and güéribo trees grow together up there. I bet some Cape region
Nomads can offer a lot of ideas!

I camped 3 nights at Playa Tecolote – was the only one, and the quietest camping of a two-week trip. There are restaurants there, and you can
schedule a snorkeling trip (in December, bring a light wetsuit top), go to Playa Balandra and eat mangos. I camped at the Todos Santos hostel (very
nice kitchen there), at Playa Arbolitos (south of Cabo Pulmo), and in the Sierra de la Laguna at Sol de Mayo – they have casitas too, but a nice
camping area.
If you’re passing San Bartolo, take a dip in the spring fed pool – free. Turn at the church – it’s across the arroyo right in front of you.
I bought some locally made candies there. I stopped in at Rancho Verde that is between San Bartolo and El Triunfo to check out the camping there –
very nice $8 – but didn’t need to stop for the day. They have horseback riding.

Stay at the El Litro Trailer Park in Todos Santos and walk the town of Todos Santos. Drive east from downtown San Jose del Cabo towards the Los Cabos
Marina and take the paved East Cape road till it tees into the dirt East Cape road and then drive northeast along the coast where there are numerous
camping spots on the Sea of Cortez (can view on google earth for orientation).

I should be in La Paz within the week, and I can show you a couple of spots of interest for day tripping from town.
If I remember correctly, you travel with a dog don't you?

If you want to venture into Cabo San Lucas, the Club Cabo Inn had RV hookups and tent camping (I say had because I haven't stayed there for a long
time). It is located immediately south of the Vagabundos RV Park and is accessed via a dirt road behind the Vagabundos RV Park. It is easy walking
distance of downtown Cabo San Lucas.

San Evaristo. The 3hr coastal drive from La Paz to San Evaristo is arguable the best in all of Baja.

Si - that was at the Todos Santos hostel - their backyard has a few campsites - each with little table/chair, and electric lights! A nice row of sinks
and mirrors, and row of toilets and showers - all clean. Covered front patio with comfortable furniture, tables, lamps, and the kitchen is awesome
with two Italian cooktops. Drinking water available for guests, fridge. Very comfortable there. I would advise though not to go on a weekend -
there is a sports field a block down and they play games with loudspeakers announcing the plays (all day). $10 for tent camping.

Everything I've read on the web about San Evaristo says you need 4WD/high clearance vehicle so that's out of the question for me.

Not true, it is a well-graded wide road after the pavement ends at San Juan de la Costa. At least it was that way in August 2017. There is a fishing
village there and most of the people do not own 4WD vehicles. There are almost no villages anywhere in Baja that require 4WD to get to. Again, what
websites are you getting this info from?

The first time I drove that road was shortly after Odile washed out the arroyo, and it was indeed 4x country. It gets repaired more quickly than many
Baja secondary roads, and the last time I was there, the road was no worse than driving hwy 5.

We found the road to San Evaristo to be about 60 miles of washboard when we were there two years ago. It depends on when it was graded last. There
were also some steep sections as you approached SE.

Playa Arbolitos South of Cabo Pulmo is pretty nice. The family that owns the ranch in front of it wants a small payment but has a toilet and shower
you can use.

Very cool. I love all those spots. Haven't been to Cabo Pulmo so that looks like the right spot to camp.
