Remembering Baja Bernie

Today is Bernie's birthday and he was so very much a part of Baja Nomad and helping folks that I thought it would be nice to remember the man from Santee and La Salina who loved people and being in Baja.

I first met Bernie at M's BBBB-4 party, September 2002.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Bernie was writing books about Baja and Baja people. Here he is at the first Pyramid Resort Book Signing event (May 2003). In black hat on the left...

Bernie Swaim, Larry Stanton, and 'J.R. Baja' at the first annual book signing
hosted by Keri of the Pyramid Resort.
Bernie was a big promoter of this idea, as well. Everyone had a great time!
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

May 2004 Book Signing #2

Bernie Swaim and fellow Baja Nomad, 'Herb' at the book signing
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

April 2005 Book Signing #3

'BajaNomad' (Doug and son Ryland), 'Cindarouh', and 'Baja Bernie' (author of 'Mi Baja No Hurry, No Worry' and 'Bouncing Around Baja')
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

May 2006 Book Signing #4

Publishing his third book this year, 'Baja Bernie' is a major supporter of the Pyramid book event.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

May 2007 Book Signing #5

'Jeans' mother Carol listens to a story by 'Baja Bernie'
author of three Baja books.
Bernie is a major supporter of the event and a really great guy!
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

May 2008 Book Signing #6

Bernie gets a squeeze from Elizabeth.

Elizabeth and Audrey checking out Bernie's books. Bernie published a special booklet 'Bernie Talking Baja' which he gave to all Baja Nomads who came to the Pyramid Resort.

Here are Bernie's Books...

2002:

2004:

2006:

2008:

Great friend, he even put me on the cover

2006:

I did the edit and rewrite on this book, then added a chapter on racing.
What a great guy
After we got published I invited him and his lady up for a long weekend
We did Yosemite, Baja flicks in my theatre, and some serious pool side chatter with a few cool ones tossed in.

We were talking about doing just "one more" book when he suddenly passed on to the big desert in the sky.

Rock on my friend, rock on!!

I posted this sometime after we met, I think as an introduction to Baja Nomads?'

Bernie wrote a chapter about me in his second book and had his cartoonist friend draw me this way...

Baja Bernie was cool. He saw alot of Baja and alot of it doesn't exist anymore as he saw it.
So there is insight in his books.

I just ordered all three from Amazon. Lots of used books to choose from and a few new offerings as well.

His wife Jamie has lots of them
Why not keep it in the family and order them from her?
I am sure that Doug could post her address

Jaime is on Facebook and today said she saw my post here. I believe she signed in under Bernie's log-in in the past so maybe she can tell 'advrider' how to get the books from her?

Jamie's dad was an early Baja pioneer as well. I think he and Bernie were friends.
