Side bar.... went to pay ppty taxes today, the office was closed.
Word is out that with the new admin. they will not be taking payments until January and no more discount for paying b4 Dec 31.
Still have to confirm that so have not seen it written in stone yet.
on another note, if you have a trust (fideicomiso) with Interaciones they have been sold to Banorte so that might explain why many of us have not
received an infoice for 2019. This might cause a little more frustration for the new year.
All we can hope is this all gets sorted out for real.

Investment in "that area" doesn't do much for the poor family in Sonora wanting to go to the land of the Golden Chalice.
I suppose that family could pack it up and head for Tijuana or Mexicali for a chance at a job.
But then there is the infrastructure you allude to...
Both Tijuana and Mexicali have big time problems in that area.
Not sure Tijuana would be all welcoming to an influx of job seekers due to a sudden economic boom via a lower VAT..and their needs.....when Tijuana
can't even provide for the needs of Central American migrants now and the mayor is clamoring for help from the Feds.
And most of those jobs are in foreign owned assembly factories...a big chunk of the profits goes whoosh....off to Japanese electronic firms and USA
companies taking advantage a lower wage scale.
It may work out ok.....but the "optics" are horrible.
Giving one sector a VAT break, a sector that can more "afford" to pay a higher rate, to the detriment of the rest of the countries poor people who can
least afford a 16% rate.
And double down on those optics when Ensenada, 100 km from the border, gets a break to keep the tourist trade in better shape.
I wish AMLO well in his plans.....it's just too bad the poorer people of Mexico are not a part of a lower cost of living, via a less burdensome VAT
rate also.
6 of the top "wealthy" 10 states in Mexico are those that have contiguous borders with the USA.....the "north" (and east)

Would you call it "overboard" when Ensenada also gets a VAT cut to keep the trinket and tequila buying tourists happy?
A full 100 km below the border "zone" that is supposed to keep Mexican money in Mexico?

On a nutritional level, I bet most nutritionists would say beans and tortillas, are more healthier than burgers and fries.
But since the USA and Mexico, are listed one and two on the obesity index, it would be safe to assume Mexicans and Americans, eat a wide variety of
bad food than just their staple foods they are known for.

The most prosperous and powerful country on earth versus the third-world.
As to all of those Fatsos ......................... the increase in obesity in the U.S. has coincided with the increase in the
Latino population and the spread of Mexican food emporiums.
Could it BE ?
Beans and Tortillas ?
It's a theory worth investigating.

You need to get out more. a few years ago I was in Europe, and I saw mostly thin people, compared to over weight Americans, and those Europeans seemed
to do a lot of walking and eat healthy fats.
Frijoles de la olla, is quite healthy, and probably has about the same amount of protein as as ground beef, it's when you fry the beans in oil or
lard, they turn unhealthy like the comparison to potatoes( healthy) to fries( unhealthy)
Sometimes being a rich nation is the kiss of death, because it usually involves more fatty red meats, and an increase in heart attacks, stokes, and
obesity. Sugar and processed foods are a real killer too.
You are probably better off living in poor Japanese village by the sea, where you eat mostly rice, and fish, than living in the rich US, and eating a
standard American diet.
