Yesterdays coverage of the moon dust portions was out of this world for all vehicles.

Decades ago in the late 80's I found the same north of San Juanico, and as I was on my own, somehow was able to turn around and take the long way north. Bawk, bawk, bawk, goes the chicken.

Traveling with another would have made all the difference and I have longed to take that road ever since. No 4 wheel for me now, so that is likely out of the question, unless I have a 4 wheel drive vehicle along.

I had a Ford 4 wheel drive van at the time and probably could have made it, but that moon dust was a whole different ballgame.

The Dakar segment yesterday went by some fesh, fesh, something or another name for this same moon dust that affected every type of vehicle. The dust collectors had to be working overtime.

It is a wonder any of them got through that silt.

The spectator situation should be defined bettering the future, if possible. It was a tragic miscalculation by a spectator that one got run over by a truck that was eliminated from the race. There needs to be approved viewing spots out of the way of the competitors.

Quien es macho naturally plays a part.

What a show this is for anyone who has gone off-road, but these dunes are a contest like no other.

A fact I had missed in the past was that there was a Dakar event that went from Paris to Capetown in the early 90's and an American moto racer won. ??????

How long did that take?

I had a landlord years ago that took part in a month long South America race that traveled the Andes back and forth numerous times in a VW bug. A month long? Now that is an adventure.

Kudos to all who participate and those of us who are compelled to watch every segment vicariously going along for the ride.

Here is to Toby being able to keep it going with painful wrist. What a show of character. That goes goes for every single competitor. May you all make it to the finish line.
