Baja XL rally begins Friday the 25th

Hi all,

Just wanted to let the Nomads know 150+ vehicles take off from Los Angeles the morning of the 25th for Cabo and back. My good friend Mike Emery and I will be in a 1971 Toyota Landcruiser FJ40 so if you see us in one of the towns below, please say hi.

Jan 25 Mike’s Sky Ranch
Jan 26 Catavina
Jan 27 Puerto Lopez Mateos
Jan 28 Todos Santos
Jan 29 Cabo or Bahia De Suenos
Jan 30 Ciudad Constitucion
Jan 31 Bahia Concepcion/Mulege
Feb 1 Mission San Borja
Feb 2 Guadalupe Canyon
Feb 3 Back to Los Angeles

I'm going to try to post to my Facebook page and my Instagram account while traveling the peninsula.

It seems to be "intentionally unorganized" in some aspects of the rally with a "get there by any means" bravado. I personally like that but I wonder with so many Baja first-timers how they will adjust.

There is a group Facebook page and many of the teams are equipped with everything you can imagine and with the latest tech. We are going analog with "less is more" mantra, i.e. the Baja Almanac.

By the way, not only is there a 4x4 class but there is an open class including two Vespas doing the race.

What could go wrong with this idea?

My thoughts too. I'm not sure, or I know, many of these racers have no idea what Baja is like. We'll see how it goes and what happens with a full report afterwards.

I'm just excited to be doing the drive..... :bounce:

well its the second time they did this - they do it every other year. first one was 2017. didn't kill anyone or lose any one, and apparently participants loved it, so I guess the lack of Baja Experience may be part of the adventure. This is the baby brother of the Bakamo rally - all the way down africa, I believe it may be like 8000 miles? they alternate between the 2 events year by year. a bunch of crazy Danes on Vespas completed that one - (PS I'm working off memory here, but I believe I have the details right)

If one of the rally members had a spot he could send a signal to David K who then could post it everyday of the Rally.
