Facebook --- and the "other" Baja site
Out of curiosity I did take a peek at what all they are doing over there. Pretty impressive.
Then I get the last Time magazine and the cover story bears out all of the horrors of Facebook and social media.
Makes hanging around here (even with a few creepy sorts) a pleasure, knowing that my entire life is not being picked through by cyber-worms.

I don't think we are 100% safe anywhere we surf the Internet. The Google ads on Nomad are tailored to whatever we type. For example, If I post here
about Jeeps, I will get flashed by several Jeep ads later on... Make sure you keep your cell phone in a lead box at night! LOL

Precisely why I never use Google and don't have a gmail address.
Those folks seem to be particularly predatory.... just my opinion.

I do not put anything personal in facebook. If this site and others want to track my buying habits. Have at it. I don't care. Nothing I am ashamed
of.
You are worried about facebook when you should be worried about on-line banking, purchasing, and other such activities you probably engage in that
have your personal data. This from someone who has been the victim of 3 break-ins like Equafax.

I used to worry about online banking until I realized the banks use the same dang internet for ALL of their transactions, so what the heck. Now I
don't want to live w/o it. Trust me, when your kid owes you $$ and they pay you instantly via Zelle, life is good

i think it was the guy who founded cysco systems that said something to the effect of....'if you are concerned about your privacy online, don't be.
that ship has sailed."

Is it Baja Talk you're talking about? I see a lot of commercial advertisements, am I looking in the right place?

I also was wondering what "other" Baja site.
The (high) number of commercial ads only means that particualr webmaster is interested in ads revenue more than in other purposes of web presence.
The less valuable or popular is the site or blog, the more ads you usually see.
Commercial ads are tailored to your browsing habits, Google tracks your browsing, there is nothing new about it. I doubt there is such an option as
"not using Google", today. You might not use their browsers and Gmail, but there are dozens of Google products that you either have as an app, or use
occasionally online like auto-translator or search engines.
Financial transactions are a real danger, banks are doing a good job keeping it secure but sh-t may still happen.

"Talk Baja" is a very vibrant Facebook group that has about 40K members. It is the go-to place for up to date informative info for pretty much
anything you can do/see in Baja.

TAILS is a security-focused Linux operating system that allows a person to use the internet anonymously. It is not for the casual PC user, but
rather cyber junkies willing to jump through the hoops necessary to boot up an interactive session in memory, forcing all connections through a
proprietary network and allowing them to disappear after use. I'm fairly computer savvy, but I personally don't see the need to go to such lengths to
protect my privacy. I acknowledge that I've abdicated any true notion of privacy as soon as I visit a website, particularly a search engine or any
sort of e-Commerce page. It's the price I've willingly paid to spend time on the internet.

norte, I wasn't posting links of sites with large memberships, just a few (English primary) Baja sites I have been to. I also am on a couple of
(Spanish primary) Baja history sites. The longer a site is online, the more members it has. Quantity doesn't mean quality.

Yeah, right, and one owner, and about six moderators, with one with their own idea what topics, ideas, or members who should be deleted, censored or
banned.
Most of the other Baja Facebook, sites, have megalomaniac owners, or crazed owners who either censor bad news about Mexico, and we have Baja site,
that censor the good news about Mexico! Some want to promote Baja, others want to tear down Baja, probably for some sick personal reasons.
Facebook, is one of the most evil corporations on the planet, who care nothing about your privacy. People, here think seem to think Facebook only
follows your browsing history and then send you ads. They do much more than that.
Next time you sign onto Facebook, check out what Facebook, thinks it knows about you by " Access Your Information. " It's shocking what they know
about you! Of course, not everything is correct, but they get a lot of stuff correct.
Once, I got curious, and wanted to know what happened to some of my old girlfriends or college girlfriends, and of course I turned to Facebook, and
sometimes they were not even members of Facebook, but I used Facebook anyway. Now imagine what you could do with Facebook, if you wanted to stalk
somebody.
If you care about your privacy I would suggest to stay away from Facebook.

Wrong. Here are just two alternatives to using Google search:
https://www.startpage.com
https://duckduckgo.com/
And ads? I never see any ads. Am I the only one using uBlock Origin and Privacy Badger ??
